"Acronym" tag... Adding ";]" in posts?

Recommended Posts

Hello, Tip.It Staff...

On going back to review the opening post of a thread ("Middle Mouse as Second Left Click...") that I began in the "RuneScape Bugs & Suggestions" area, I quickly ran into a really wacko annoyance. Wherever I had used the "Acronym" tag, it had attached a ";]" next to the text I was putting a helpful tooltip upon. Unluckily, this wreaks havoc upon keeping the post clean-looking and easily understandable by others. :(

As a good solution, could you change the hint for a tooltip into a 'dashed underline', please? Seeing as it has been done that way on other websites and in program help files, it would be equally distinguishable, non-intrusive, and non-interruptive to the flow of typed text in posts. :^_^:

An alternate solution could be to use an image of some kind to indicate a tooltip'd acronym, but I don't think that would work well. :-?

Going to reply here instead of in the modding post.

I'll admit that one thing disturbed me, and that was the thread in "Forum Updates & Suggestions", titled as....... "Acronym" tag... Adding ";]" in posts? ....... having gone unanswered by at least one Admin, but I have to figure that is due to staff having to moderate the rest of the forums. Hopefully an Admin can respond sometime in the nearby future, though, as it deals with a forum-wide issue?

An admin responding to a thread is seperate to moderating, but I understand the issue.

Unfortunately, not all of us admins are techies, me being in the group.

One quick thing you learn as a new administrator is that a small change in the backend of the forum could have huge a huge impact on the board, both good and bad. Stuff like new forums, permissions and ect is very simple, but the core set up of the board itself, is something that many of us won't touch as we are not trained. The tech admins are so so so so so so busy that there are some projects literally months in the Que.

As an admin, I make great effort to read every reply on this board (Forum Updates and Suggestions) but it is hard to reply to every one. A red name usually means a final decision/ serious discussion, so I only try to post when i know 100% what I am talking about, or it is a opinion/suggestion type thread (or giving a final decision we made as a team). Also, red names tend to scare some people off, so we tend to stealth to let everyone feel comfy discussing a topic. :)

/me hops this makes sense after my 14 hour work day. :P

Don't worry, your post makes perfect sense. (Albeit, slightly typo'd, but that's no problem.) And yes, I understand the tech admins have a lot to deal with. TBH, I'm personally just glad/thankful/etc. to have any post whatsoever from any Admin/Mod, which means at least someone in the staff has read it...

BTW, I think this thread does file under "Suggestion", if not "Bug Report", lol  ... so no worries there. |^_^|

I bet, however, that a Tech Admin will have to reply to the following :? ... Unless I miss my guess, reconfiguration of things like markings for acronyms should be possible to handle directly in the ACP? :-k ... Perhaps either in a CSS handler, or a 'skin images' interface? I could be wrong, though, seeing as it has been ages since I actually had to handle an Invision-based forum myself. (Was from being in a clan for a short period, haven't been in one since due to IRL stuff...) Although, I would hope that going all the way to the base code (e.g., something that can't be handled in the ACP) wouldn't be needed?

I'll stand back and wait for additional comments/information/thoughts... Again, I'm thankful to at least know Tip.It's Staff are aware of this thread.

as nic said, the tech admins are the ones primarily who handle threads like these, however i was able to speak to one and told me this was fixed on the 11th

Whoa, whoops... I didn't catch notice of the change, then. ... Strange that it took my browser a day or two to refresh it, though. :-k ... My apologies (Really, I'm sorry :( for seeming like such an awful nag!) to Tip.It's Staff, and thanks for getting rid of the ";]" attachment. You rock!
