Mr_Putter
Alright! It's Oscar season coming up. As we all know, many, if not all of the movies that are attempting to get nomitated for Oscars, specifically the bigger ones (actors/actresses, director, and of course best picture.) This year I'm going to and atleast try to see most of the Oscar-buzz pics, as last year I seemed oddly confused around Oscar season. I ended up seeing all the movies nominated for anything once they came to DVD, as I always do, but this year I'm thinking im going to go to the theatre to see them so I can see them before the Oscars. So what do you guys think will be in the running for Oscars this year? There's a tremendous hype around "Walk The Line", specifically for Joaquin(?) Pheonix's portrayel of Johnny Cash. Another one which I think has a chance is "Munich", directed by Spielburg, which revolves around the 1972 Olympics. It's supposed to have a "Schindler's List" kind of flavour so this could be good. Other possible runners include: Brokeback Mountain (this doesn't interest me in the least), Memoirs of a Geisha (neither) and Good Night and Good Luck (maybe, maybe). There's also some buzz around Jarhead (in doubt), and King Kong (I also doubt it). What I'm personally looking forward to is Syriana, with George Clooney and Matt Damon. It's from the writer of traffic, a drama/thriller. It sounds good, and involves intertwining stories revolving around the worlds oil industry. I'm excited, this could cuz some buzz. But anyway, what do you think of the upcoming Oscar season, and what did you think of last year. I'll perhaps post my thoughts on last year tommorow. I'm out - discuss! How2PK
Sin City, Batman Begins, Star Wars EpisodeIII: Revenge of the Sith, Walk the Line, Munich, A History of Violance, Jarhead, Weatherman, Lord of War etc. etc. will probably get a nomination somewhere. I think they'll skip Last Days. L'Enfant will probably up there among some others for best foreign film since it won the golden palm on the cannes film festival. I'll probably listen to the radio with my mate till '6 in the morning with our prediction list. Oh, I didn't really like most of last years winners. I didn't like Million Dollar Baby, The Aviator wasn't that great either, Ray wasn't too bad. Signature by Maurice SendakWhen the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool, that's amore! ____
I pretty much agree with Daan. I'm tiping Sin City or Batman Begins to be the majority winner. Revenge of The Sith, dunno. Would have to see what it is up against :P
Mr_Putter
I pretty much agree with Daan. I'm tiping Sin City or Batman Begins to be the majority winner. Revenge of The Sith, dunno. Would have to see what it is up against :PYes, those are the 3/4 best movies this year, but are they what the Academy is going to say? Crash is the other movie that atleast diserves a nomination for best movie. And a win for best Original Screenplay. The 3 you said plus this are definately the 4 best movies this year. But does the Acadedy think so? Hard to say. Oh, I didn't really like most of last years winners. I didn't like Million Dollar Baby, The Aviator wasn't that great either, Ray wasn't too bad. Yea, but I thought Million Dollar Baby to be all right. I donno about Best Picture though. The Aviator was very overrated I thought, it was just a hassle to watch and was overlong. Ray was perhaps the best candidate of last year, save for perhaps MDB, and it was very well done and very interesting. And what were the other two nominees? It was like Sideways and Finding Neverland? Both terrible. Sideways had 2 funny parts, and the rest was torture. And FN was...Just plain torture without stopping. There was very little to speak of last year. Hotel Rwanda, Collateral were good, a few others...

Bubsa
We've hardly been blessed again this year. Like last year, there have been a couple of good films, Sin City and Batman Begins etc., but hardly films that will be remembered in Oscar history. I hope we're just going through a bit of a dry patch. I've definately got to check out that "Walk the Line" though. Can't let down my Man in Black now, can I? ;) This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.
How2PK
I think Darwin's Nightmare and maybe No Direction Home will be up for best documantary... Guest GhostRanger
Guarantee Walk the Line will get nominated. I also see Jarhead and Munich getting in there as well. Just because they are the type of movies that go the Oscar's. Corpse Bride will take best animated (does it have any competition?). And I suspect that Good Night and Good Luck will be entered as a documentary since that is what Clooney has advertised it as. If it does, it will win I'm almost sure (unless we see a revolt against it as we did F9/11). Best soundtrack? Jarhead will get a nomination along with Willy Wonka. I also think Willy Wonka will take some form of costumes/make-up design. That's all I can think of now really...
Bubsa
Corpse Bride will take best animated (does it have any competition?). Probably only from Wallace & Gromit. This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.
How2PK
Corpse Bride will take best animated (does it have any competition?). Probably only from Wallace & Gromit. Let's not forget Hauru no ugoku shiro (Howl's Moving Castle), from Studio ghibli, which had one (maybe more) oscar winning anime movie(s) before.
