1) would-be mother was raped into the child-baring state

2) giving birth would somehow kill, or severely harm the mother

3) the baby was known to have severe birth defects and wouldn't likely live on the outside world

 

 

Any other situation? The mother should go through with it. It's their responsibility, to care for the baby they chose to help create. They are not god and don't have the right to take the life of said future being. if the woman had a choice in the making of the baby, she should not have a choice in whether or not to keep it. If the choice of making the baby was taken from her, than she is givin the option to not keep it. Who are we to take the life of the unborn?

Adoption has been mentioned a lot, and Iamdan (I think) has made a good point that if everyone were to put their kids up for adoptions, foster homes would be too full, and ultimately these kids would just have a bad life. Why would the mother have to go through 9 months of pregnancy to give birth to a kid that she didn't want to give birth to in the first place, only to put the kid in a foster home where he probably won't be happy.

 

Though I agree abortion shouldn't be used a s birth control. That's just foolish.

I completely disagree, there are a thousand more reasons or "acceptable circumstances of abortion", many already presented in this thread.

And ultimately there isn't any way to tell whether or not the woman planning to get the abortion is doing it because of one of those circumstances or not.

It does go back to the laws though. If the collective says it's right it'll be legalized, if they say it's wrong it'll be banned. But if it's made legal there are the quirks to justify it for those that say it's wrong, such as saying it's only okay in x situation.

Anyway, on topic, one thing I never got was why abortion isn't just legal. If a woman wants to get an abortion than she can go get it. If an abortion is against her ideals, than just do whatever the hell else you would do with it.

This may sound... offensive, but pro-lifers are ultimately destroying the world by making overpopulation come faster. It's a tiny difference, but it'll grow exponentially over time.

It's a gray area. When do you consider it to be a person? At conception? At birth? Then it gets into the rights the mother has to the fetus versus the rights the community has to protect it.
