Slayer Question

I've been thinking about getting into slaying on a regular basis and I was wondering what equipment would be best for me. All my stats are in my sig and if anyone couldn't tell, I prefer to use melee. I know there isn't going to be one best set up, so discussion about pro and cons of different ones is welcome.

How much money do you have to work with? I could tell you the best gear anyway:

 

Helm - full slayer

Cape - Soulwars

Amulet - Fury

Weapon - Chaotic rapier / Abyssal whip

Shield - rune defender

Body - Bandos

Legs - Bandos

Gloves - barrows

Boots - dragon

Ring - berserker (i) / ferociuos

 

Dragon claws for special attacks. Karils for certain tasks and saradomin sword for waterfiends. Range black demons from a safespot while cannoning.

If you don't have quite as much to spend, you could try this setup instead-

 

Head: Slayer helm/black mask

Cape: Obsidian

Neck: Ammy of glory

Weapon: Abyssal whip

Shield: Rune defender

Top: Torag/guthan/dharok's platebody (all have the same stats, so it's your choice depending on looks/price/etc)

Bottom: Verac's plateskirt

Gloves: Barrows gloves (from recipe for disaster)

Boots: Dragon

Ring: Wealth/warrior/berserker (again, it's a matter of personal preference and how much money you have. Berserker is best but costs the most)

 

All of this should cost you somewhere around 8-13m depending on your ring choice.

 

Alternately, if you're really on a budget, you could switch the platebody and legs to rune.

Amulet - Fury I've heard an Amulet of Glory is nearly as good. Considering the massive price difference would that be a better choice?

1. No, do not use rune helm for slayer. Unless you're required to wear a certain type of headgear for a task, always wear a black mask.

2. Obby capes are pretty cheap these days so you'd save yourself a lot of time and money by just buying one.

3. Obsidian shield is not a bad temporary choice since it has a decent strength bonus.

4. Don't bother getting a full set of barrows for slayer. You'd need to wear the helm and weapon to be able to use the set effect, which is a waste since all the barrows weapons are slow and you're better off with a whip and black mask anyways. If you'd like to get matching top & bottom, do either torags or dharoks. Verac skirt is slightly better though due to the prayer bonus.

5. You need to finish the entire recipe for disaster quest to get to barrows gloves. If that's not an option, look into buying a combat bracelet.

Tokkul takes a while to get. You're better off buying them, since you'd waste all that time trying to get the tokkul when you could be slaying and earning money instead.

 

For your gloves, see how much of recipe for disaster you can get done. If you can get adamant gloves or better, use them. If you can only get up to mith gloves or less, go for the bracelet instead.

 

Guthans is a very outdated method of healing. You can still use it if you'd like, but the best thing you can do is get your summoning to 68 so you can use a bunyip. It'll remove the need for food on the majority of your tasks. Another thing that helps with healing is to get the enhanced excalibur from finishing the seer's achievement diary. The special attack heals 20hp and increases your defense equal to that of a super defense potion. I use it frequently with my bunyip, and I never have to bring food on a task.

I need to ask you people how so many of you manage to obtain Bandos gear and Dragonfire Shield.

 

Those items combined cost nearly 70M gp and I just feel that is a big waste of money.

You're right, they are a waste of money.

 

Personally, even though I could afford bandos & dfs if I wanted, I don't bother with either.

Bandos does have a nice strength bonus, but it's just not worth 50m to increase my max hit by such a small amount.

And dfs has always been a waste of money. Rune defender beats it almost every time, except in specific situations like wyverns and such.

I see a lot of people running around in that gear but don't have high skills.

 

So I guess they just go and merchant. Or something else that I don't know.

Always wear the Black Mask unless you have to change headgear for a certain task. Same for the rune defender unless you have to change shields for some tasks.

 

Until you can get the Slayer Helmet you're stuck having to change head gear on some tasks.
