[VIDEO] Amaterix's F2P/P2P 1-99 Cooking Guide!

Hello, this is my guide for 1-99 Cooking on Runescape. As of now, this is the only guide I've ever created for Runescape, so please bear with me and let me know if anything needs to be patched up or re-written. This does not include complaining that some of the prices are off, they're only used as a rough example for what each level gap will cost you. Basically, this guide is compiled from many other guides I have read, with major changes. I only directly take credit for my time put into this guide to make it clean, precise, and understandable for all; as well as prices and number of fish needed for level X - X.

Note: All prices were taken from the GE as of Friday, June 04, 2010. The number of fish it takes to get a particular level is based on the minimum amount of fish it takes to get to that level WITHOUT burning any. So buy more than what needs to be used at times, but stay reasonable!

Below, you will find routes for both F2P and P2P.

A quick tip before reading:

*Members always cook and bank in the Rogue's Den. If you do not know where this is, I have linked a simple video to show you where the Rogue's Den is located. I would also highly recommend doing the quest "Family Crest" for Cooking Gauntlets to help lessen your chances of burning lobsters, swordfish, and sharks. [Rogue's Den video:

*Free Players, I'm not sure where a good cooking place would be, I would assume Lumbridge for the bank upstairs and range downstairs, however you can always make fires. I would appreciate somebody else's knowledge on a significant F2P cooking location, thanks!

Free Players' Cooking Guide 1-99:

cook_shrimp.gif[1 - 10 || Shrimp, Cooked Meat, Chicken]

*At these levels, you don't have much of an option, and all three choices give you the same amount of exp. I would recommend just doing shrimp to keep things simplistic.

**Amount needed: 39 shrimp | Cost: 546gp | Profit: ±0

cook_herring.gif[10 - 20 || Herring]

*Now the exp will pick up a little, you're still in the cheap area, so I wouldn't worry about the cost.

**Amount needed: 67 herring | Cost: 3,216gp | Profit: -1,943gp

cook_trout.gif[20 - 70 || Trout]

*This is quite a big stretch on one type of fish, and a long one in general. Trout will grant you a 3gp profit each at market price.

**Amount needed: 10,474 trout | Cost: 345,642gp | Profit: +31,422gp

cook_salmon.gifcook_tuna.gif[70 - 95 || Salmon, Tuna]

*Here you can cook either Salmon or Tuna. Tuna, if you have some money to burn.

**Amount needed: 114,771 salmon | Cost: 12,050,955gp | Profit: -803,397gp

***Amount needed: 80,340 tuna | Cost: 12,452,700gp | Profit: -1,526,400gp

cook_salmon.gifcook_lobster.gif[95 - 99 || Salmon, Lobster]

*You're 67% of the way there, ready for the final stretch? You can either continue the cheap way with Salmon or toss away your money into Lobsters. Lobster will be a lot faster, but cost you more, and vice-versa on Salmon.

**Amount needed: 47,336 salmon | Cost: 4,970,280gp | Profit: -331,352gp

***Amount needed: 35,524 lobster | Cost: 11,616,348gp | Profit: -1,847,248gp

[[TOTAL PROFIT FROM 1-99 COOKING: -1,105,170gp ~ -3,344,169gp]]

Congratulations! You are now at 99 Cooking!

*Easy to obtain.

**Amount needed: 13 anchovies | Cost: 468gp | Profit: +143gp

cook_herring.gif[5 - 10 || Herring]

*Still in the low cost zone, no worries so far!

**Amount needed: 16 herring | Cost: 768gp | Profit: -464gp

cooking_mackerel.gif[10 - 15 || Mackarel]

*Not sure how easy these are to obtain, if you have trouble just continue with herring to 15.

**Amount needed: 21 mackarel | Cost: 525gp | Profit: -105gp

cook_trout.gif[15 - 25 || Trout]

*Still in the low levels, just keep cooking!

**Amount needed: 78 trout | Cost: 2,574gp | Profit: -234gp

cook_salmon.gif[25 - 30 || Salmon]

*Almost to a decently big stretch, just keep cooking to 30.

**Amount needed: 62 salmon | Cost: 6,510gp | Profit: -434gp

cook_tuna.gif[30 - 68 || Tuna]

*Here's your first big stretch, just stick with it, you're getting closer with each fish!

**Amount needed: 5,917 tuna | Cost: 917,135gp | Profit: -112,423gp

cook_lobster.gif[68 - 80 || Lobster]

*This is where it can begin to get expensive, but don't worry, it shouldn't be too bad.

**Amount needed: 11,509 lobsters | Cost: 3,763,443gp | Profit: -598,468gp

cook_monkfish.gif[80-94 || Monkfish]

*This is the most expensive stretch, but you'll be there in no time if you've kept it up this far!

**Amount needed: 39,724 monkfish | Cost: 21,093,444gp | Profit: -1,708,132

cooking_shark.gif[94-99 || Shark]

*Finally, we're at the last stage of cooking. Here, we won't actually lose money in the process either. We'll make some back!

**Amount needed: 24,238 sharks | Cost: 31,582,114gp | Profit: +460,522

[[TOTAL PROFIT FROM 1-99 COOKING: -1,901,919gp]]

Congratulations! You are finally at 99 Cooking! Now go outside and get some fresh air, you need it!

**One more important note**

If you're going 1-99 Cooking, I would strongly recommend doing something else in the meantime as well to keep yourself from venturing off from your cooking goal. For example, listen to music, talk to friends, do homework. I even made this guide as I was cooking!

Not bad. The cost info is nice. Are you going to be adding xp/hour rates for each item so people can make a cost vs speed comparison?

Hey mate, first off, since you were talking about burning and such, could I suggest using Tip.It's cooking tables for the levels at which you no longer burn food.

As for cooking places in F2P, while going for 99 cooking I tried a multitude of places (never bothered with Lumbridge).

First off i tried the G.E., it is quite good since as you know there are ALWAYS people firemaking, meaning that you just need to take a few steps and you've got a cooking fire. However, this isn't the best option since after a while fires burn out, which means you have to either wait for the person to make a new one, or run to find another.

Another way i tried was making my own fires. This also worked pretty well since you get both cooking and firemaking XP, and you never have to move to go cook, but once again they burn out.

Finally, I went to Al-Kharid, where I stayed from probably 74 to 99 cooking. Here are some facts about this place... You never have to turn run off with the new updates (you recharge while you cook) ~ do NOT quote me on this since i only did 6 sample runs, but so far it worked everytime.

Here are some times from runs that I'm doing with no armour with only a full load of uncooked food.

- 1:27

- 1:26

- 1:26

- 1:27

- 1:26

- 1:26

Average * around 1:26

From this time, it shows that at Al-Kharid, you can bet you can do at least 41 loads an hour if you get similar times. Now for the XP/hour, first keep in mind you will be cooking 28 food per load, meaning 1148 food per hour. Now you take whichever kind of fish you are using and do the amount of xp per fish times 1148. For tuna, that would mean 100*1148=114800 xp/hour.

Also, since you're going to be waiting for a bit while you cook every time, you can make it go faster by putting your mouse over where the buttons are going to appear when you click. Also always use the "Empty your backpack into your bank" button instead of wasting precious seconds to move your mouse over. Since you will be doing so many runs, you will soon have all this by heart, which means you can then just concentrate on speed and xp rates.

In F2P, I went the long way and I cooked tuna until 92 cooking at which time i switched to swordfish, this resulted in an approximate loss of around 2-3M GP, and to me getting from 68-99 cooking in a little under a month.

I hope this will help your guide, I'm sorry if it seems I am stealing your thread to make a small guide of my own, but i'm just giving you the raw facts of F2P cooking.

That's excellent advice, gemmaster. I hadn't thought about cooking in Al-Kharid. I just looked around on the world map, and it seems to have the range closest to a bank (it's in the building right next to the furnace). I have to agree that would be the best range for F2P'ers.

Amaterix, maybe you should do some xp/hr comparisons with making your own fire in the G.E. vs running to the stove in Al-Kharid.

Kaida23, I'm glad you liked it, I think the time per load with a fire you make yourself will actually be pretty close to Al-Kharid. I tried a few more fish earlier and I found that it takes approximately 2 seconds per fish to cook, meaning the *minumum* time per load is 56 seconds if I timed right. Plus, xp/hour rates may be lower just because of the fact that you lose 2 inventory spaces per load making a fire, which means with tuna, you'd be losing 200xp per load which gets substantial after an hour.

Once again I may have this slightly wrong, but if I do more rates and such for you, I will try to be as accurate as possible.

~~`''\ Nealo23 /''`~~

*Edit* ~ Also, if you decide to put xp per hour rates, remember to put different approximate xp rates for each of the good spots... For spots in F2P, may I suggest testing Lumbridge, G.E. with using fires made by people training firemaking, G.E. making fires yourself, and Al-Kharid.

And one last thing, for your guide, I believe anchovies are F2P as well meaning that you can show those for both members and non-members for the first few levels. Also, once again for the F2P part, you could put tuna for the 95-99 part, they are cheap enough (currently checking prices and at mid there is a 23GP price difference between the cooked version and the uncooked version) which means you are gaining 20 more XP per fish cooked for only a loss of around 23GP per fish.

Hope this will help out a lot! :thumbsup:

Top bank in Lumbridge.There are 3 or 4 normal logs near the bank.Could start a fire there with a tinderbox and cook the fish there.I personally did wines to 99, but they cost quite a bit.

Thanks for the idea Aslan, I'm trying that right now so that I can give Amaterix more times. I'd say that from the looks of it, it'd be best to get an empty world so that low levels don't take the logs. Also, I think you should once again try and memorize the area to always click in advance.

On that note, here are my times

- 1:19 (already faster... but you still lose 1 inventory space, so we'll see)

- 1:18

- 1:18

- 1:17

- 1:17

Average * around 1:18

From this time, it shows that at Lumbridge bank lighting fires, you can bet you can do at least 46 loads an hour if you get similar times. Now for the XP/hour, first keep in mind you will be cooking 27 food per load (you have a tinderbox), meaning 1242 food per hour. Now you take whichever kind of fish you are using and do the amount of xp per fish times 1242. For tuna, that would mean 100*1242=124200 xp/hour.

In other words, that means you can actually get better xp here than in Al-Kharid. Plus, you will be getting small amounts of firemaking xp! However, you may find it more annoying since you need to do more clicks to do everything.

One more thing I noticed is that you can't click the "Bank all held items" button since you must keep your tinderbox out. Also, just thinking about it, I thought that since you must make all the fires, you may have to start off with a slightly higher firemaking level so that it doesn't take you too long to make a fire each time.

*Helpful hint, you can keep using the same log spot since it will burn out and respawn by the time you bank.

Deposit everything and move the tinderbox near the raw fish stack.Click once on the tinderbox.Withdraw 500000 (a big number that's easier to click on) raw fish.Problem solved. :mrgreen:
