Wireless Netoworking

Okay, so here we go..

I bought a wireless router 2 weeks ago at a Wal-Mart (not sure if that matters) for my girlfriend because she had just moved into her apartment the week before and with her clutter I hated having to deal with the ethernet cables and such (this way with the wireless router her roommate could use it too), and for the entire 2 weeks since I have been fighting to get her computer connected to it wirelessly. It is a Belkin Basic wireless router Model No.: F7D1301 v1. My laptop had no problems connecting to the network and using the internet, but her laptop is connected local only.

Here are some pictures (they are large):

This first one is showing that the network does show up, and I can connect to it. It is the Belkin.3EF4 network.

This second one is showing the connections I currently have. I have two, one wired, one wireless. The wired is internet capable, the wireless is not.

The third is showing the router's general info on its homepage. It is currently set to factory defaults, I have changed nothing.

[hide]Router1-1.png[/hide]

The fourth is the router's acknowledgement of both of my connections on it's site. 1 wired connection, 1 wireless.

[hide]Router4.png[/hide]

The fifth is showing router's LAN settings on it's site.

[hide]Router5.png[/hide]

And finally the last image is showing the command prompt, telling me her laptop's IP address's and such. It is not 192.168.1.11 like I said in RuneScape. It has changed to 192.168.2.2 & 192.168.2.3 it looks in accordance to the router's settings.

[hide]Router6.png[/hide]

But even still I have no clue.. I'm no computer whiz mind you, but I don't feel like it should be this impossible to figure out what the hell is going on, so please help. :)

Please post anything you think might possibly help. I won't be able to check back to this thread until tomorrow because I need to get to bed. So yes, please post away. :wall:

Happenned a time or two with my router. You simply have to reinitialize it, simple as unplugging it for 30 seconds. If it doesn't work, come back and tell us.

Under 'Manage wireless networks' it is at the top. Unplugging didn't work, it still says I have a local only connection. Her laptop's OS is Vista and she has an Atheros AR5007 802.11b/g WiFi Adapter. If either of those things help.

And now, although I am connected to the router's network (the router is signalling that it is connected to the internet, which is good) her laptop is saying that it is NOT connected to the router. Any clues?

Have you tried the windows repair wizard. Sometimes can help. Just go to the network and sharing center and click on the X.

So why are connecting both wired and wireless? It can (not always) cause problems when you connect through two different network connections.

Also your pictures are not large, they barely fill up half my screen (and everyone else that uses normal 1080p resolution).

@indy500fan

The pictures are large for most people, so i decided to mention it. Thanks for stating the obvious. And I was connected both ways to verify that I was able to connect to the router at all. The wired connection works, but the wireless does not regardless if I have the wired connected at all.

@VARN

Thank you for pointing that out, I didn't notice that before. It does say my network is public doesn't it.. Well seeing as I'll be away for a week I won't be able to do anything else to it, but thanks. I wonder why it's not reading the Belkin network at private, because it requires a password and whatnot to join it.

Thanks. Anyone else with any ideas, feel free to post them.

Public network is when you are connecting to an unsafe network; if you set it to private the internet should work.

I'll have to try and see what I can do with that when I have access to it again in a few days.. Otherwise I'm resorting to returning the thing for another router.. I've spent way too much time [bleep]ing around with the thing.
