Dungeoneering Help

Recommended Posts

I usually train Dungeoneering solo, and I have a few questions.

First, what is the best melee weapon type (I have 43 smithing)? Also, would a tier 4 2h be better that a tier 4 rapier, or something like that?

EDIT: Tier 5 rapier...

Second, is it worth it to buy Fractite ore from the Smuggler to make axes, etc., or should I explore the dungeon (small) before I collect rescources?

Last, should I spend 15+ minutes making money to make full Kratonite w/ Fractite weapon, or should I just make the weapon and maybe a chainbody?

Here's my stats as of last week (I've only gained like 5 levels in some other skills, only 1 dung lv)

Unless you go with a shield (having a way to aquire one early without sacrificing chest + legs), two-handed weapons have an advantage over one-handed ones. The spear used to be the best weapon, but the new class rings changed that a little. A 2h may be the best now.

Ok first of all you need to learn about binding =]

My advice return to complexity 1, any floor you will start with an inventory full of goodies, right click the fractite weapon and select 'bind'

Exit the dungeon and start at the floor you want to explore at complexity 6, you will always start with the weapon that you have bound.

My experience spear>2h>battle axe>long then it gets a little muddled. Reason for the spear is because it can ultilize all three attack styles stab, crush, slash; this is important because the monsters in deamonheim are hyper sensitive to attack styles. For weaknesses ask/or look at a guide.

I am a semi-high level and found that I really do not need armor to get through a dungeon. So if you are finding it hard to stay alive make some armor, all the floors are fairly similar so if you needed armor on floor 4, you will probably need it or floor 5.

Onto pickaxe question, if you are planning on making armor then I would try for a krat pickaxe, they are much cheaper than a fract and will yield a similar number of ores from a rock.

For normal axe/hatchet do not bother with a high level one, unless you need to make money through selling logs.... then krat again.

As a PS, collecting all of the resources is fun to do, but the slowest in terms of dungeon xp/hr. And the xp you get from those resources is pitifully small. So I would only get what is necessary to finish the dungeon, not clear it out.

I just realized that I put tier 4 rapier instead of 5... I'll fix that now...

So a Kratonite Spear would be better than a Fractite Rapier/Battleaxe?

Depends on how you use the weapons. Seeing as how your Dungeoneering levels are still a bit low, I'd suggest using a 2-handed weapon. Ice-based monsters and skeletons are weak to crush attacks so a Fractite 2h would be a good solution. I would suggest Mauls but they can only do Crush damage so aren't as flexible. However, if you aren't opposed to gaining exp in all melee skills, the Fractite Spear is the way to go. It has good attack bonuses for all 3 styles (Stab, Crush, Slash) and a decent strength bonus. IMO, it's one of the best weapons for F2P, especially before level 50.

Another thing: Make sure to bind 125 of the best arrows that you can use. This is especially useful once you go into the Abandoned 1 floors where some bosses have clear disadvantages to Range. OR Bind 125 of the best combat runes. Advantage here being that you can easily create the rest of the runes for a powerful Magic attack. In Daemonheim, flexibility is KEY!

So my suggestion to you is bind a Fractite Spear and 125 of your best arrows or runes.

About resource collection, in F2P, Mining really is the most useful. I solo a lot and I rarely need to fish or woodcut, except for skill doors. Always carry a pickaxe, hammer, tinderbox, hatchet, fishing rod and feathers with you. The former two will be the ones that you'll use most often.

Hope this helps!
