Did i just seriously brick my itouch?

Featured Replies

i would like to remind all moderators that under US law it is now legal to jailbreak ipods and iphones.

Completely revised (found out most of the answers).

questions:

if i take the restore directly from apple, what software version will it be?

what software version did i likely have on my ipod touch until this failed jailbreak?

Jailbreaking wasn't illegal beforehand anyway, so there is no need for that tidbit. ;)

And it is not possible to brick the iPod Touch. If you restore it through iTunes, it will update to the latest firmware. If you put the iPod into DFU mode, you can download the firmware file from felixbruns, shift click the "restore" button, and direct iTunes to the ipsw file. However, I do not believe that you can downgrade the firmware at all, as I believe that you must have a signed firmware from Apple. As such, you must have the version you had before you got your device stuck.

If your device was jailbroken with Spirit, you were probably on 3.1.3.

If your device was jailbroken with Blackra1n, it was probably 3.1.2, but it could have been any number of versions.

But who knows.

First of, it's an iPod Touch, not an iTouch. Just a pet peeve I have.

Second, you didn't brick it. And you are going to need to give us a lot more information on your iPod than what you have already given.

What generation is it?

How big is it?

What firmware is it running?

thanks for posting. i read where it was impossible to brick but i used the term for lack of a better word. i used redsn0w for version 3.0 and it seemed to work but then it was telling me to connect to itunes. and of course then it made me restore it, but it wouldn't let me restore to 3.0 or 4.0 firmware (which had me very scared and is the reason behind this thread). i installed the new version of itunes (took almost 2 hours) and then it let me restore but it wouldn't allow me to put 3.0 i had to upgrade to 4.0 so no jailbreak for me -.-

A 4.0 jailbreak is out for most 2nd gens and I think MC models (late 2nd and all of 3rd). So yeah you'd be able to jailbreak still probably.

Your half right.

It's out for all MB models, but for MC, you need 3.1.2 blobs, or be on 3.1.2.

If anyone's wondering, there's now an extremely simple way to jailbreak. On Safari on your device, go to jailbreakme.com. You can install Cydia without ever connecting your iPod or iPhone to your computer. I just did it, pretty awesome.
