How can I download videos with Firedownload?

Featured Replies

I know how to download videos (from sites like youtube) with addons like DownloadHelper or Flashgot. The problem is, these programs don't (or don't seem to) let you use Firedownload which I want to use because I get an average of 1.5mbps with Firedownload and only about 100kbps for all other download managers I've tried.

So does anybody know how to download movies with Firedownload? The real problem, I guess, is that Firedownload doesn't 'recognize' videos as downloadable (i.e. you can't right click and press save).

Maybe YouTube has a visual Tutorial on it?(:

1. "My ear's in a cup, I guess that doesn't count..."

2. "So heyyy, that's a pretty reasonable reaction huh?"

3. "So you up for NAFTA?"

4. "That went exactly how I wanted it to."

I'm going to move this to Tech and Computers, as you'll get more acute help there. PM if this bothers you ;)

To use a download manager, you'll need a direct link to the video.

I use youtube-dl with the -g flag to fetch the direct URL, which can then be used with whatever download manager you like or used with a media player to stream the video without a browser.

If you're using Windows, this may be of interest.

I tried but it was really odd. Firedownload didn't recognize what it was downloading and that seemed to make it slower (like around 100kbps) and I ended up with a "part file" that couldn't be opened.

You could always try sending an email to the maker and seeing if it is possible to make it work.

If you click on them they hatch or grow up faster and look awesomer!!!

87.5% of all statistics are made up on the spot. If you're one of the 42% of statistics that doesn't, copy and paste this into your sig. In addition, 126.324% of the previous statement does not make sense.

Do you mean having some service convert it or just getting the .flv? If you just want the .flv which can be converted later, you can just copy and paste the file that flash caches while you watch the video. On Linux it puts it in /tmp, but I'm pretty sure Windows does it in a similar way.
