Unable to Log in in Directx mode

Featured Replies

Today I tried logging in on runescape, but I just got a black screen, after I reloaded the page it was the same thing.

Restarted my computer and still got the same black screen, however If I turned the setting to OpenGL I could login.

So I'm wondereing, Why can't I log in correctly while in DirectX mode? I was able to do so all the time, and no recent hardware changes have been made

Pc Specs:

Intel Core I7 860

4 GB Ram

Ati Radeon HD 4890

And if it would matter: I have around 750GB free space

Running on Windows 7

I know jagex have got known issues with 5 series ati cards atm. Perhaps the 4 series is having a few bugs as well?

This is one of the problems that you get when a company tries to be too "cutting-edge" with their graphics development, and won't maintain proper compatibility with older computers and graphics cards, thereby allowing newer stuff to have something to fall back upon in the event of rendering failures. In short, it's a [bleep] headache and a half.

Anywho, we'll need to know the following...

  • Browser and version
  • Java version
  • Graphics Driver Version

...in order to be able to help you better. :geek:

ATI Series 4 and 5 aren't old. They are very recent.

It's ATI pushing boundaries with their new drivers that caused the issues, jagex just have to catch up.

Argh... you didn't get what I meant... What I meant was that Jagex didn't leave any way to enable older graphics cards to display stuff properly, so due to the newer cards having off-the-edge stuff in their drivers, those newer cards are also having trouble because they've got nothing to fall back on in the event that they can't properly render what is being sent to them. :(

TBH, I've got no problem with technology trying to move forward. What I do have a problem with is when it moves forward without any thought to the past in terms of compatibility with older things. <_<

I'm using the latest version of mozilla firefox

Downloaded the new ATI drivers a few days ago

edit:

I have JAVA standard edition version 6 update 20 (build 1.6.0_20-b02)

And I haven't seen any JAVA update pop up in windows, so I guess I have the most recent version?

Start -> Control Pannel -> Java (32-bit) or Java (64-bit) depending on system -> General Tab(should Defult) -> About... (first button)
