What's the #1 thing you hate about PVP these days? Getting crap loot when you have 0 EP? Having to go to Bounty Worlds full of claw rushers? Having to match up only against targets who don't want to fight? Crazy amounts of lag?

Ever wish PVP could be simplified to just PVP, leaving plenty of room for hybridding and such?

The Deathmatch Arena will be its own world. To enter a Deathmatch Arena world, you must have at least 20 combat. You are automatically skulled upon entry.

The DM Arena world will have two sections - a bank and a waiting room. The waiting room is similar to that of Fist of Guthix, and like FoG, the room will match you up with a random partner. However, unlike FoG, DM Arena will have a much better matching system. You can only be matched with people who have a combat level within 3 of yours. For example, if you are level 88, you may be matched with players from level 85 to level 91. P2P combat is considered if one has a combat familiar on them, F2P if not.

One you are matched up with someone, you will be placed in an instanced event room the roughly the size of Edgeville Bank. You and your opponent have 5 seconds to prepare potions/prayers etc. There is no running. Regular PvP rules apply- however, there is no running and there are no limits - example: untradeable herblore potions are allowed, etc.

If you die, you lose all of your items, unless you have the Protect Item prayer on, in which case you keep your most valuable item based on High Alchemy value.

If you win, you get all of your opponent's risked items as well as a chance at several other rewards, such as the pre-existing PvP equipment (Vesta's, etc.) at about a 1/20 rate, and new rewards.

These rewards can be untradeable weapons with special powers. Some degrade and some do not. Some can be "bound", meaning that you do not lose them on death in one of these DM worlds (however, do note that they will be lost on BH or PVP worlds).

Some suggestions:

Ancient Dagger: +60 to stab, +40 to slash, +60 to strength

The ancient dagger attacks with magical melee. It benefits from melee bonuses such as stab and strength but calculates it against the opponent's magic defense (like a Bloodveld or Jelly). No special attack.

Neptune's Halberd: +80 to stab, +105 to slash, +100 to strength

Neptune's Halberd is a slow (GS speed) weapon that completely ignores the effect of Vengeance with its special, Neptune's Wrath (100% drain). Neptune's Wrath drains the opponent's special attack bar to 0 and hits with 20% increased strength.

Fremennik Dragonbody: +50 to all defences, +5 to strength

A "bound" item.

Suggestion is obviously not finished, just putting this out there.

Don't you understand why jagex has made PvP to what it is today? It is because they want to limit real world trading (they have failed), what you suggest is to remove the trade limit, as you could literary give away cash...

My lame drops:
6 Effigys
1 D Med - 1 D Dagger
1 Verac's Helmet - 1 Guthan's Platebody

Matches you up with a random person, it's impossible to get friends.

There would also be a minimum number of people in the world - say, 300 or so, to prevent this.

It's not really possible to land the target you want in FoG, is it?

Your idea is still flawed:

300 required to start = quiet times no-one can play = HUGE flaw

No limit to start = people go to a dead world and get paired up with trade partner you purposefully dies.

Besides this is hardly gonna be that different from normal pvp.

Claw speccers etc will all come over and thoose hu run from overpowered types won't play (so like 80% or so of current pkers)

The world is specifically dedicated to this minigame.

Besides, claw speccers would have to deal with people actually praying Protect and stuff. In fact, they'd be hurt the most from this minigame unless they want to risk a whip or use range.

So basically a game type where everyone prays and safes to outlast the other person? Cuz that's exactly what it will ultimately turn into. Add no protection praying to your list.

You've pretty much described a BH world where you only fight targs, which is what I wish they had. Also lrn2combattriangle. Just because this is meleescape doesn't mean you can suggest only melee rewards.

That's true. I tried to weight defense slightly higher than it is currently- I guess this mode already increases the value of defense (by outlasting people anyway).

Also yeah, I was sort of rushed for time. Can't think of any good ranged weapons atm.

I like the general idea of pitting two players against each other in a "forced" death match.

There should be a watching interface, too.

  • 4 weeks later...

Sounds like a good idea but knowing runescape many players will complain about it.

crafty_catch.png

it's a ok idea but as some people have pointed out-it might not work. I'm sure the idea of getting their items on death would insure that enough players would be on the world-but the fact that you couldn't escape might mean that they wouldn't. Based on my experience- pvp is filled with cowards these days and not many would be willing to risk anything of actual value if they can't escape which would make the "get items they dropped on death" worthless if they was extreme welfaring or some other crap like that.

I also don't like how the combat area would be so small and without movement. Mages are designed to farcast..why shouldn't they be able to? If a meleer doesn't like it then they should l2range. This brings me to another point which ties in with what I said in the first paragraph.

Most people would not be willing to risk that much since you could not escape, this would pretty much guarantee victory for people with large bank values-especially those who can afford maxed mage equips. This is even more of a issue considering that most pkers are meleers. Obviously I have nothing against mages killing meleers (which you should be able to tell by my rsn), but they should have at least a chance.

EDIT: I do like the idea of untradable pvp drops though, as long as they are balanced. Your Neptune hally idea for example; I feel that it would be unbalanced. It would allow a meleer to do away with a mage's sol spec while doing 20% more damage at the same time and it would kill venge combos which is one of the very few k0 techniques that takes actual skill.

Seems rather unfair that you can't run and such. I understand the point of an enclosed arena, but ancients would still need to have a point imo.

It would be a small arena. Mages and rangers could still hit from distance. It's just that extensive kiting wouldn't be practical.

MstrMonopoly.png

Well, the range of a sighted longbow (The longest range) is 13, so the arena should be at least 26x26, so you can be out of range of someone, wherever they are...more strategy, and all that.
