I hope I'm improving as I take more shots.

This one is from a NASA Space Gel test tube thing I've got that you grow plants in. Thought it looked rather cool, especially since the plant has grown the wrong way up.

 

Any comments/advice/criticism etc welcomed.

 

Oh PS: I'm aware the focus isn't perfect, but without a proper macro lens I found it tricky to balance getting up close with getting the right focus since this is soooooo tiny.

Yup 100% real, its a tiny seedling; entire thing in shot is like size of half my finger nail. (Hence no macro lens made it tricky)

That is a really interesting picture.

 

I like the color; not so much the subject, though.

Severely let down by the fact nothing is in focus. Poorly composed, and although you have a nice subject, there is nothing interesting about the composition. 3.

 

The fact that it isn't in focus is what lets it down.

I don't think the composition is too bad, it's would be quite decent if the image was a bit crisper.

I think its unfair to say nothing is in focus; the water/sweat on the edge of the glass vial and some of the seeds in the gel are in pretty crisp focus; just the plant that is the focal point isn't quite in focus.

 

And as I detailed in my posts above this thing is like half the size of my finger nail and I don't have a macro lens so trying to get the focus wasn't exactly easy.

I disagree with you. Nothing really is in focus, and it leads to an unappealing shot.
