don't know man try reinstalling windows media player? (might be a fault there)

also don't use Xvid (if you can help it) it takes longer to encode and uses more CPU to use there built in Codec (and divx decodes it with less cpu used to decode)

install the codecs.

Can you provide a link? I have already downloaded both codecs from Downloads.com.

You can download the XviD codecs from Koepi's site. Here's a direct link - copy, paste, and change "e3e" to "exe".

I'm not sure where you got this information, but it is quite wrong. XviD is comparable in speed to DivX, and often produces smaller files. I don't use DivX because of their questionable ethics:

In January 2001, DivXNetworks founded OpenDivX as part of Project Mayo, which was intended to be a home for open source multimedia projects. OpenDivX was an open-source MPEG-4 video codec based on a stripped down version of the MoMuSys reference MPEG-4 encoder, however the code was placed under a restrictive license and only members of the DivX Advanced Research Centre (DARC) had write access to the project CVS. In early 2001, DARC member Sparky wrote an improved version of the encoding core called encore2, which was updated several times before. In April, it was removed from CVS without warning. The explanation given by Sparky was "We (our bosses) decided that we are not ready to have it in public yet".

In July 2001, developers started complaining about a lack of activity in the project: the last CVS commit was several months before, bugfixes were being ignored, and promised documentation had not turned up. Soon after, DARC released a beta version of their closed-source commercial DivX 4 codec, which was based on encore2, saying that "what the community really wants is a Winamp, not a Linux". Many accused DivXNetworks of starting OpenDivX for the sole purpose of harvesting other people's ideas to use in their DivX 4 codec, some were disappointed that the codec had stagnated and wanted to continue working on it, while others were angry at the way DivXNetworks handled a so-called open source project. It was after this that a fork of OpenDivX was created, using the latest version of encore2 that a few people downloaded before it was removed. Since then all the OpenDivX code has been replaced and XviD is published under the GPL

Personal experiance.. iu had a 1 ghz chip that could run the SAME file encoded in DIVX normal speed... however this SAME file encoded in XVID had many.. i mean MANY blips artifacts and picture skips... it was not till i got a 1.8ghz chip that i could play Xvid in there decfault codec.. but shortly after that i installed divx 5.X and it played Xvid without Xvid installed... and IT RAN AS FAST AS NORMAL DIVX?

so.. is Xvid better? honestly no... i don't archive to CD anymore so i don't have to fit to a 350/45 minutes format for most hour long TV shows....

400megs is fine to get the SAME quality..

:) have fun
