  1. To use PINs to battle macroers, Jagex would have to: 1) Make PINs mandatory 2) Force users to enter the PIN every time they access their bank 3) Either remove the drop boxes, or PIN those as well (defeating their purpose) 4) Add wierd font/text size to the PIN screen Also, even with a wierd font, it is much easier to read a number on a screen than a letter (nevermind a whole word!). There are only 10 digits (compared to 26 letters), and digits are easier to tell apart (compare 7 and 9 to e and o). PINs would have to be made longer, to increase the chance of a screen reader messing up a digit. ------------------------ This is a bad idea.
  2. This is a great idea. It would be much easier to meet up with people when everybody's got the same clock.
  3. It is quite easy for a macro program to type a PIN. While the location of the numbers is randomized, the actual shape of the numbers is not. All that is needed is a program that can screen-read (trivial), and then click the right buttons. The PINs were put in place to reduce the damage from hacking, which they do quite well when used. They would be useless against macro programs, even if they were required to be entered every time you used the bank. If you want to stop macroers, advocate the addition of new random events with simple logic-based puzzles (example: What letter is an upside down W?). Those would be quite hard for macros to deal with, easy to write, and easy for real players to solve.
  4. don't worry.. already taken care of.. https://www.grc.com/passwords grc.. 100% cryprographically strong passwords i am using my own customer one from there and aint no one gonna guess it this time That won't help you against a keylogger, and it really seems like overkill in my opinion true.. but it will help against brute force... they coulda done it on the website IE forums to avoid detection by me.. So your forum password is the same as your runescape? Even worse He's saying they could have tried using the runescape forums to brute-force his password. Mementh: did you at least have a PIN?
  5. Some companies add a check on installation to see where you are, but there's nothing built into a game CD that will stop you from using it. If it does complain, you might be able to change your location in Windows and trick the check. If you get the game on a DVD there might be a problem, but I don't know enough about the region stuff to say.
  6. What does Firefox have to do with playing WoW? From your posts, you main complaints seem to involve Runescape's music not working and Norton's firewall popping up alerts about Firefox. The first problem can be fixed by using the Windows client. The second can be fixed by telling Norton to always allow Firefox. Once you get Firefox, try downloading Adblock and the adblock filter updater. These two plugins for Firefox block most advertising on the net.
  7. How do you plant such flowers? I've seen them here and there, but not anything to plant them with.
  8. With regards to dual core processors messing up old programs: bollocks. Some code will run slower if it is designed as only one thread, but that is because each core in a dual-core CPU is slower than the single core version. HT is even worse in this regard, since it's basically just splitting up a single CPU. Short answer: if you want speed, get a dual-core CPU.
  9. This is actually a feature, from back when WMFs were first invented. They are allowed to run any code they want. Every windows system that can view WMFs is vulnerable.
  10. This is Javascript, which is quite different from Java. I advise changing the title to get help.
  11. Give her more work? She might just be bored. If you really want to spy on your own employee, then get a screengrabber + keylogger. It will log all keystrokes, and take screenshots every couple minutes. Keep the screenshots folder pruned so she doesn't notice excess disk space.
  12. 1k each. The problem is that even if all the monks are dead, you'll get your hitpoints and stats pummled by Zamorak. Easier to just telegrab the wines.
  13. It's just a pain. If I'm going to be away for long enough to matter, I log out. The only times I'm auto logged out are when fising, woodcutting, etc.
  14. Agreed. Floppies are very small (1.44 megs), so you'll not be able to store much on them.
  15. If I were you, I would first learn the fundamentals of programming. There are many good books out there to do so - look for ones on C++ (or C, if you are brave). Then, check out NeHe's Tutorials for programming. They are how I learned to program using OpenGL.
  16. You can download the XviD codecs from Koepi's site. Here's a direct link - copy, paste, and change "e3e" to "exe". ]http://www.koepi.org/XviD-1.1.0-Beta2-04042005[Caution: ExecutableFile] I'm not sure where you got this information, but it is quite wrong. XviD is comparable in speed to DivX, and often produces smaller files. I don't use DivX because of their questionable ethics:
  17. The idea of "trimming" armor with gems isn't very well thought out. Look at what you posted - does any of that look good? Better would be to have the option to embed cut gems in the armor. Especially the helmets. They just look silly.
  18. Yes!! This feature is needed very badly, especially in very populated areas.
  19. Next time that happens, open your Java Console. To open the Console, right-click the Java system tray icon (next to your clock) and select "open console" (or something like that). If there are any errors in the console, please post them.
  20. You should grab the stats every couple hours. Otherwise, the runescape site will be queried every time somebody loads the sig. It's up to you where to store the stats in the meantime.
  21. While there has been a bunch of crap legislation passed (DMCA), none of it allows breaking into a computer system. If a system in the Pentagon has been cracked from outside, then it has to have been through a port opened in the firewall. Nothing can get through a closed port. If NASA's front page has been defaced, it was probably due to a security hole in their web server software. Such holes have nothing to do with firewalls, since a firewall that blocked a web server's ports would display no page. Running a firewall with no passed ports is the same to the outside world as running a computer with no listening ports. In either of these configurations, it is not possible to break into a computer remotely. The user will have to run a trojan of some sort.
  22. Go to your Control Panel > Java > Basic > Show Java in the System Tray.
