Windows Desktop Mods

Lately I've been interested in Desktop modifications, but I don't really know anything about them; where to get them, how to implement them or what possibilities I have.

I run Windows 7 (on a macbook (shouldn't make a difference)) and I'm interested in anything really, at least trying new features.

My questions are: How much, if anything, will this slow down my computer? What harm can this do to my computer, I'm sure there's something and can I find free open source mods?

Thanks in advanced

I never heard of any desktop mods as such for windows.

Theres obv all the sidebar widgets tht u can scatter about for functions. Aside from that all you really get is programs tht run an alternate desktop so u can have multiples. I forget whats its called but ones give u a cube which is pretty kewl

What type of mods are you looking for?

screen mods like rainmeter

or customising your desktop icons

or stuff like widgets?

To answer your question about how slow your computer may become that would depend on the RAM. Checking up on the specs of most Macbooks, they seem to have around 2GB RAM (with the option to go to 4GB for close to $150, what a joke) so with 2GB it won't be a problem unless your really filling out your screen with lots of extras, while trying to run things.

(also please note that none of the links provided above have not much searching in them, mostly just first google response for queries)

I'm not talking about widgets, more so something like rainmeter; something that completely changes the setup and look of a desktop.

I have 4gb ram (I bought it myself ;))

Edit: this is really cool

Any idea if there's someway to get an OSX Exposé like feature on windows?

Any idea if there's someway to get an OSX Exposé like feature on windows?

functionality similiar to Expose is included in windows 7 by default in Windows Aero

Holding the windows key and hitting tab will display all of your windows in a 3d line, which is somewhat like Expose's feature which displays them in a grid

Hovering your mouse over one of the window tabs at the bottom of the screen will display the main image of the window and depending on the program its sub windows which is somewhat similar to the Application windows portion of Expose (also hold windows and hit t)

you can access your desktop either by clicking the small rectangle in the bottom right corner of your screen next to the clock or through the use of the 3d flip view
