Scorcheddd
I'm starting to build a desktop computer and I've never built one myself before. I'm hoping that someone here can tell me which parts are the best/most compatible with the others. I get confusesed when looking at the parts and which ones are important, and what is necessary First, I've already got my monitor (And I plan on getting a second that's the same)http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001439 I'm getting the COOLER MASTER HAF X RC-942-KKN1 for my casehttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119225 But after those two pieces I have no idea what parts to get due to the specs associated with each piece. I'm not sure what to look at after these two parts lol. I want around 12-16 gb of ram, and like Two Terabytes of harddrive space. (I'm a video editor and a gamer so the excess ram is a must for adobe after effects)\ Any info is greatly appreciated
obfuscator
Allow me to be brutally honest - if you've got no idea what parts are even necessary for building a pc then it may not be the best idea to do this yourself. That said, you need the following things: Disk drive - self explanatoryHard drive - either one or two depending on the size and specsProcessor and heatsinkRAMPower supplyvideo card (a good one if you're doing a lot of after effects)Motherboard - connect everything together (must be compatible with the processor depending on whether you prefer amd or intel) What's your budget for all this? OldJoe
I don't really understand... If you are a video editor, how do you not know what goes together? Maybe the best option for you would be to check with a local computer store and get a custom build by them. Scorcheddd
I'm 17, heading off to college next year so I wanted to have a sweet set up going in. I've got a friend who said he'd help build it if I got the parts I needed first. I know the general parts I need, just not how they mesh together. Like I know I need a motherboard, but I don't know what type of ram goes with which one. My budgets around $1,
obfuscator
If you're doing graphics and video editing $1500 is a pretty restrictive budget, especially if you want 12gb+ ram. Scorcheddd
This is what I have so far, does the motherboard come with the processing chip or do i have to get one separately? And I'm custom building so that I can upgrade as I get more money. At the moment, I only have $1,500 to spend on it.
obfuscator
Link the video card, ram, and mobo. Yeah you have to buy a processor separately. "It's not a rest for me, it's a rest for the weights." - Dom Mazzetti

obfuscator
Anything on this page should work for processor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007671%2050001157%20600005573&IsNodeId=1&name=Core%20i7 RAM, mobo and VC should all work fine together. Guy
I would urge caution when building your own computer/choosing your own components if you do not know what you are doing. It would be substantially cheaper, I would admit. With regards to that page, higher GHz is generally better. jasignhagj
1500 is not at all restrictive for a good computer, especially since the monitor is bought. Ill post a win build later. EDIT - How soon do you need this? Sandy bridge processors are far faster, but intel dun goofed on the chipsets for the motherboards. A fix should be out by march, and it'd be worth the wait. OldJoe
Might i also suggest Scorch, to read up about the different components at wiki and perhaps bit-tech.net J'adore aussi le sexe et les snuff moviesJe trouve que ce sont des purs moments de vieJe ne me reconnais plus dans les gensJe suis juste un cas désespérantEt comme personne ne viendra me réclamerJe terminerai comme un objet retrouvé
Scorcheddd
I'm in no hurry, I just want to order it by the end of march or so. I wanted to get a good idea for my build on it

Scorcheddd
I'm not sure if my friend was planning on over clocking it or not, It's what he's done to his own, however he said it took him a long time to do that so idk. I was also planning on getting the SSD for the os and applications, as well for the quicker start up Thanks everyone for the help! I'll make sure to come back and post my final build/how the project goes!

I was under the impression that he was going to be doing a very large amount of after effects and other rendering, and professional gfx cards meant for that stuff are up to $1000 themselves... jasignhagj
If you want to overclock, pick up a $40 cooler. The Coolermaster one you picked is massively overkill
Scorcheddd
Researching over clocking, I've decided I'll most likely do it. I won't be doing heavy after effects, but probably will be doing some because I mostly do jobs for company's such as small commercials and filming teaching courses. After a while I'll probably upgrade my graphics card to a nicer one, but for school something that works well will do for now
OldJoe
Sorry to sound like a zit in the arse, but overclocking? If you don't know what pieces you need to make a computer run, why are you going to start overclocking? I doubt it very much that you've read about parts, what their purpose and usage is. Even if it's your friend who does it, you need to know what to do if it starts acting up. jasignhagj
The 560 should be enough for now. I'm not sure the exact needs video editing has, but the 560 is a seriously powerful card for the price. And yeah, I wouldn't mess with overclocking unless you know what you're doing. The 960 is already clocked at 3.2Ghz, so OCing it shouldn't even be necessary.
Neomop
In all honesty, most video editing demands are cpu-intensive. A GTX560-ti is more than enough provided you have a good enough processor. I have a i7 950 + GTX 460. I still blow by rendering vids almost on a 1:1 timeframe
