Att/Str/Def training? 97 Combat level

Hey everyone, after a fairly long break (I quit before the ge, came back for a month around dark-bow time, then quit again until now - I guess that's like 3 years), I've come back to runescape and am looking for a way to train Attack, Strength, and Defense (also range, but I know where to go for that). My melee skills average around 75, I have 78 mage, and 64 range (>.<)

I'm wondering what good places there are to train melee skills. I've heard a few people say giant spiders, some say these shadow warrior things.. altogether I'm lost. If you kindly would, could you give me a list of 5 or so monsters with decent drops and decent xp for a level 97 like myself? Pay to play, and please suggest something other than slayer. Thanks!

AZ's if you can get to them, zombie monkeys, DHing skeleton monkeys, giant skeletons, anything where you can use a salve really. There's probably a million threads on this, just have a look around.

I had a look at the AOW, and looked through 4 pages of regular guides but to no avail. Thanks for the monsters! :)

EDIT: If anyone else has more or wants to agree with hedge feel free to post.

Maybe there should be a guide on it then? :P

I spent a minute opening up tabs on the first 5 pages.. I'll check them out. Thanks for the help (any anyone else can still feel free to help :D )

OP: Why not slayer?

Really? Cause as I recall it was you who was the one cussing me at base. Also, re-read what you just said: one 15 second delay (which is an exaggeration to begin with) ruins floor times? You are beyond ridiculous.

I feel that slayer is sometimes a hassle to do and travel, and I hate getting stuck with bad assignments. I just want to get 80 attack, strength, and defense to dk with my friend. I feel it will be easier grinding than doing slayer.

Guides are, in most cases, for more complex training methods. You don't really need a guide for something simple like combat. There's nothing you can say that can't be found on rs wiki or a h&a thread.

So you just want the xp fast? You should have said so in your first post.

OT: You'd be best off with Armoured Zombies as they are the highest melee xp in the game with a decent drop chart imo.

Honestly, after you do get those 80s, you'd be best off with training slayer and completing Smoking Kills for the Rewards System.

Okay. Thanks. And I found a nice guide here, that I did not know know existed before:

EDIT: Thank you Azeem, and sorry for the lack of clarity. I'll check out the requirements for Smoking Kills in a bit.

I am positive once you get into slayer, you will enjoy it. And with Smoking Kills done, you can gain points to even completely block a task that you do not like and cancel tasks you can't be bothered to do at the time.

Good choice. :)

So yeah, just stick with Armoured Zombies/Giant Spiders/Bandits/Shadow Warriors till 80s all around melee stats, go to DKs with your friend, then train slayer. :P

If you get a salve (e) amulet you can get some good xp on any low-defence undead monster (high lp preferred). Be sure to send your strength bonus into the stratosphere.
