Dungeoneering questions

I've just started working towards my goal of getting a chaotic rapier. I'm mostly soloing since it's way too much of a hassle to find good teams.

So, questions for you guys!

1. I'm rushing c1's for my lower floors, what would be considered a good amount of time to be spending per floor? I'm currently around 3-4 minutes per floor which I feel is probably way too slow. Any tips on how I can be faster?

2. At what point should I stop rushing and be doing c6 meds? Currently doing my last 5 floors, should I stop rushing sooner than that? (I can only reach floor 26)

3. Should I be switching my attack styles much based on the monsters I'm fighting? I have a prom 2h with berserker ring on tier 5. I pretty much only slash since I can't be bothered to switch constantly (except for bosses of course).

4. I've been keeping my eye out for a surgebox to bind but so far the only thing that's been dropping are blastboxes. Are surgebox drops really that uncommon? Got one! Finally.

5. Is it worth spending tokens to upgrade any other ring styles? I don't have points in anything else.

6. When I'm doing c6 meds, should I bother killing everything? Does it have any effect on my exp?

7. When will I start seeing those night spiders or whatever it is that drops the SSH? I remember seeing a link somewhere the other day that had more information about getting one, if someone could point me towards that I'd appreciate it.

Thanks in advance guys! :]

`Could always try C1's with a team, otherwise I think 3-4 minutes isn't that bad.

2. At what point should I stop rushing and be doing c6 meds? Currently doing my last 5 floors, should I stop rushing sooner than that? (I can only reach floor 26)

`Maybe 1-20 C1 and the rest C6? Not 100% sure on the best route here.

`Crush on skeletons is the only time I really swap it.

`They are actually quite common tbh.

5. Is it worth spending tokens to upgrade any other ring styles? I don't have points in anything else.

`Berserker style with a 2h is a good option.

6. When I'm doing c6 meds, should I bother killing everything? Does it have any effect on my exp?

`I'd say only kill things from GD doors.

7. When will I start seeing those night spiders or whatever it is that drops the SSH? I remember seeing a link somewhere the other day that had more information about getting one, if someone could point me towards that I'd appreciate it.

`SSH is dropped by the night spider - most common in floors 30-35

Hi if you're reading this you are amazing and I love you.

Maybe they'll release a bugless update for April Fools. That'd sure be a joke

surgeboxes are a lot more common in large floors, because the mages are higher leveled

be on the lookout for any high level mage that's holding a surgebox

don't clear all monsters, just guardian doors or if you must a puzzle room

you do get more xp in a floor for clearing more monsters, but it takes a lot more time and isn't worth it

Thanks for the tips guys :]

I just got my surgebox, I think the problem was just that none of them were of a high enough level up until now.

I've just started working towards my goal of getting a chaotic rapier. I'm mostly soloing since it's way too much of a hassle to find good teams.

So, questions for you guys!

I would look into DGS or doing DG with friends. In both cases using Skype makes it more enjoyable and your floor times faster.

1. I'm rushing c1's for my lower floors, what would be considered a good amount of time to be spending per floor? I'm currently around 3-4 minutes per floor which I feel is probably way too slow. Any tips on how I can be faster?

3-4 min is about right. Things to do to make sure your top speed is to use piety/turmoil flashing on every hit. At higher prayer levels you can have it just on for the whole time fighting without running out of prayer that dungeon, which isn't a huge issue if it happens anyway due to everything being very low leveled.

Don't bother taking any kind of food or equipment from the table or loot anything from monsters.

Make sure you know the bosses weaknesses and exploit them.

Grab a friend or two to go with you.

2. At what point should I stop rushing and be doing c6 meds? Currently doing my last 5 floors, should I stop rushing sooner than that? (I can only reach floor 26)

You're doing it right, you can also do your 5 floors prior to your last five (in this case 16-21) on c6 small. For the meds duoing them with a friend will help your time/floor significantly.

3. Should I be switching my attack styles much based on the monsters I'm fighting? I have a prom 2h with berserker ring on tier 5. I pretty much only slash since I can't be bothered to switch constantly (except for bosses of course).

Learn to switch, not only will it decrease your floor times but its best to learn how to do this well now while you're soloing so that if you ever team you don't have to deal with people flaming you for slashing on skeletons. Monster weaknesses are greatly exaggerated in DG and the time saved from switching to the correct style is non-trivial.

4. I've been keeping my eye out for a surgebox to bind but so far the only thing that's been dropping are blastboxes. Are surgebox drops really that uncommon? Got one! Finally.

Gratz, now learn which monsters a best to mage and how to creat fire runes without greatly reducing your floor times.

5. Is it worth spending tokens to upgrade any other ring styles? I don't have points in anything else.

You have your CSB now, invest into blitzer or blazer and have it on quickswitch so you can start practicing effectively switch to magic on monsters weak to it (such as demons, forgotten warriors, etc.). Other than that save your tokens for further tiers of berserker, T7 is a trivial amount of tokens for nontrivial boost in your dps.

6. When I'm doing c6 meds, should I bother killing everything? Does it have any effect on my exp?

Killing everything is bad, only kill things that you have to to progress through the dungeon (GD's mainly). Killing everything will increase your exp per floor, but lower your exp per hour.

7. When will I start seeing those night spiders or whatever it is that drops the SSH? I remember seeing a link somewhere the other day that had more information about getting one, if someone could point me towards that I'd appreciate it.

Night spiders become far more common on the second abandoned floors, even more so on large floor plans. Don't go hunting for one, not having one will force you to improve your food conservation, ability to tank, and your prayer conservation. Its best to DG as normal and count yourself blessed if you happen upon a hood.

Thanks in advance guys! :]

You're welcome :)

Thanks for the all the info, tieszen, that helps a lot. I just upgraded blazer to tier 5 for quick-switch, it seemed more useful to me than blitzer.

I guess I will start to look into monster weaknesses now as I go. Forgotten warriors go down so much faster with mage, it's almost ridiculous, haha.

I do intend to start doing teams or duo's with my clanmates once I get up a little higher, but I have to catch up to them first!

Also, is 25-35 minutes a good amount of time to be spending per floor on my c6 meds? I've been steadily getting faster as I've started to improve my techniques. I'm wondering what kind of times I should be aiming for.

Wadebling is actually a machine and not human ;) most people will average ~20 min for a solo med depending on floor plan. My record is 13:24 and my worst has been 28+.
