Karamja Tasks

The task ""Romancing the Stone" - Mine a red topaz from a gem rock" can be completed in an other way then described "Head to the North West corner of Shilo Village until you see some bright pink rocks. Keep mining these until you get a red topaz."

I finished it while getting a red topaz from a gem rock while doing the twai bwana cleanup activity ;)

Thats true but I'd question its worth at being mentioned.

Afterall the task guide gives a concise instruction of how best to complete a task and it is far more efficient and likely to get a red topaz simply mining gem rocks than it is to happen upon a gem rock in tai bwo wanni mini-game, let alone getting a topaz from it.

Anyway since its similar correction area I jsut noticed:

Ardougne E19 in the table of descriptions.

In the upper box that gives the task name and the instruction attached to it it only says:

Buy a skewered kebab from the Poison Arrow pub

While the grey box that details HOW exactly to do it says:

"Don't Eat the Pointy Bit" -Purchase a skewered kebab for 25 coins in the pub just southeast of Ardougne Square.

Top box should be:

"Don't Eat the Pointy Bit" - Buy a skewered kebab from the Poison Arrow pub

Lower box:

Purchase a skewered kebab for 25 coins in the pub just southeast of Ardougne Square.

It is worth being mentioned because you need to get 100% approval rating and I have got 2 red topaz gems from that. So you wouldn't need to go to shilo anymore.

I know got 100% without seeing a single gem rock.

Everyone I know who completed it never got gem rocks.

Besides since in any logical order tai bwo wanni comes first surely if by sheer luck you get the topaz during tht task you can just skip it later?

Why go to the hassle of explaining a chance based less efficient method of doing the task?

I have gotten around 5 gem rocks in ±200% favour, 3 of them got a red topaz gem. While I could just be lucky it still is a chance and you won't need to go to shilo if you would do that task first. Also the fact that it is chance based doesn't make it less efficient, the fact that you got a red topaz on the way to 100% without the need to do anything except bringing a pickaxe is making it more efficient. Even if it would be less efficient, that would be no reason not to inform the users of other ways to achieve a task, tip.it guides are not all based on being efficient.

Yeah I just meant the task guide lists the most direct way to do each task rather than covering all possible circumstances. Ergo give the most efficient way to do EACH task, not necessarily the diary as a whole.

None of the other tasks that have slower/less reliable alternatives list them.

Like I said the gem rocks in tai bwo wanni clean up aren't that common, unless your lucky, and its not a reliable way to do the task when compared to "walk to a gem rock that is always there, mine til u get the topaz"

Just my thoughts.

  • 2 weeks later...

I agree with Sy, the task book does provide a certain method of completing them, whether you use purely Runescape's Task tab or a Task guide (Like Tip.it's :) )

Just to add, being able to access Shilo Village is quite useful for the fast transportation between Brimhaven and Shilo Village, and the quest itself is required for [Legends' Quest], [Lunar Diplomacy] and [One Small Favour]... :)

From my view, Wisse was suggesting adding a note about that alternative, I don't think he was saying to change it. I have added the note on the task for gaining favour suggesting if the opportunity to mine a Red Topaz presents itself, it can help complete task M19. I have also gone ahead and credited you, Wisse! Thanks for the suggestion
