I'm having trouble starting familiarization, pretty much every time I go and talk to him he says there is no obelisk active. I heard that it varies by world so I've been hopping trying to get him to give me a clue, I've hopped almost 15 times and have yet to find a world with an active obelisk. Is there anyway to tell when the next one goes active? I know it only happens once every 2 hours for 20 minutes which seems like a frustratingly short window of time.

Just keep hopping or use a Familiarization CC to find a world. Also consider using contact NPC and stay near a bank to save you a smidge of time instead of talking to Pikkup in person.

Obelisk chat is often empty, so most parts of the day it's just faster to hop around worlds and talk to pikkupstix.

IIRC most of the time all the worlds are roughly in sync. So in the same way they all get star falls about the same time and evil trees about the same time an active obelisk appears around the same time.

 

Ergo it's pretty much a given if your world is dead they all are for now, unless you happen to be catching the beginning of a new wave
