Money Through Combat

I'm looking to make some money from combat. I'll include my equipment in a picture below, and my stats are in my sig. I've done barrows for quite a while, but I need a change before I go crazy. I'm thinking of doing Bandos GWD with some friends, but that's not going to happen for a little while. Besides the equipment in the picture, I've got about 1m to buy any extra stuff I might need, so please include that in the suggestions. So based on the picture and stats, what can I do to make some money from combat? And I'd prefer not doing slayer, as I did a bunch of that recently as well, and didn't make much at all. Thanks for the help!

Its not letting me post the picture directly, but just follow the link and the equipment will be right there.

You are not going to make a lot of money through combat with your stats the money from PvM is only really gonna start coming in when you are maxed with turmoil and overloads. In the meantime slay and you will build up a nice amount of charms while making a reasonable amount of cash and gaining melee experience. This will set you in good place to start proper PvMing after slayer and earn some serious cash in the meantime if you really want to make better money through combat your only option is camping some kind of dragon.

I'm not sure which kind of slaying you were doing, but if you're strapped for cash, going the slower route in slaying is fine.

IE: Don't cannon Aberrent Spectres for fast exp, just kill them for some good profit. Stuff like that, taking the slower route such as doing Dragon tasks and banking all the hides+bones will net you some good money and trains a slow skill such as slayer.

Thanks to all those who have messaged me concerning a revamp of my Range-Slayer guide. Because of you all I will start rewriting it asap.[/color]

With 95+ Melee stats, turmoil and overloads with a unicorn you will be able to solo and duo bandos although your lack of maxed combat stats does mean that you will be vulnerable to being crashed I am not entirely sure on the gp/hr for this but I would assume 2m+/hr. With similar stats you can fight the DKs for around 3m/hr. With 95+ range, 90+ Defence and 85 + prayer with access to overloads/extreme range you can go to Arma either solo or duo although I am not sure on the gp/hr average on this. With maxed stats and 96 summoning with overloads and high prayer you can try your hand at Nex ( I have no experience here ) I have heard figures between 4-10m/hr qouted as what you earn here. With similar stats needed for Bandos you can kill Corp although I have no idea about the average gp/hr on this although obviously the chance of a 100m+ split on a divine from one drop makes it a very attractive prospect for many. With 90+ Melee stats reasonably high prayer, extreme potions and a unicorn you can kill Tormented Demons for a nice amount of charms, effigies and I think about 2m/hr. With high stats at barrows you can make 1.5m/hr + as to Zamorak and Saradomin godwars I wouldn't bother and I can't think of any other PvM opportunities. Also a bit of advice you should get into dungeoneering for a rapier, ccbow and possibly rigour. To make good money via PvM you need to be on good teams you won't get on to these if you lack high herblore, prayer and the superior chaotic weapons.

Reading through this, I feel that I would never be able to accomplish such high stats through slayer(Or at all to be honest. If you told me a year ago that I would break 100 CMB lvl, I wouldn't have believed you). I would also need to get money if I wanted to get high herblore and prayer, which is very expensvie. Should I just throw money to the wind for the moment and concentrate on combat exp for now? If I find the right training method, I could probably achieve such high combat stats much faster than slayer. I know little to nothing about dungeoneering other than chaotic weapons are good, so I'll probably have to find a strong guide to get those weapons. So is it a good idea to break this into chunks, like focus on exp, then dungeoneering, etc., or should I stick to slayer?

Start farming, do MTK and such, get yourself some decent base gear (fury, berserker ring) and get 70 prayer etc.

The base slayer gear is as follows (alternatives in brackets):

  • [For all slayer monsters except those mentioned under other weapons] Chaotic rapier (whip)
  • Bandos body + legs (Verac's skirt with either fighter torso or proselyte top)
  • [Depending on prayer/accuracy needs] Fire cape/Soul Wars cape/Ardougne cloak 3
  • Barrows gloves (your best rfd gloves, at least rune)
  • Dragon boots (rune boots)
  • Amulet of fury (glory)
  • Dragon defender (rune defender)
  • Berserker ring (i)/ferocious ring if slaying in Kuradal's Dungeon (berserker ring, warrior ring)
  • [Most important] Full slayer helmet.
  • [For magic defence on waterfiends/aquanites] Karil's top and elite void skirt (black dragonhide body and chaps)
  • [Crush attacks to use on waterfiends] Chaotic maul (Saradomin sword, Zamorakian spear)
  • [stab attacks for higher-levelled dragons, when not using rapier] Korasi's sword (Zamorakian spear, leaf-bladed sword)
  • Task-specific items such as mirror shields, antifire shields/potions, elemental shields, rock hammers, crystal chimes
  • Cannon (optional, up to personal preference)

Slayer setups generally emphasise strength bonus, which increases the average damage of each succesful hit (slayer monsters usually having rather low defence, hitting is not a problem). Secondly, prayer bonus is important to keep the cost of prayer potions down (as you slay with piety on, to increase the speed of your kills. This is cost-effective and highly recommended). As a rule of thumb, +10 prayer bonus or above is good, but don't overdo it (anything above +20 is a waste). Defence and accuracy bonus are usually not fretted over (any defence bonus over 200 will do; if you get hit too often you should be using a protection prayer). Dagganoth, black demon, black dragon, lesser demon, hellhound, bloodveld and spectre tasks should be cannoned, as it dramatically increases xp rates (although it costs a bit).

Some notes on gear: You'll want a fury and a berserker ring before you get bandos plate, and get that before tassets. You'll want accuracy bonus on higher-levelled dragons; if using stab attacks (which you should) you can use the Ardougne cloak 3 which provides you with +6 stab and +6 prayer bonus. Torso + sw cape and fire cape + proselyte are common cheap top/cape combinations; the former is better.

Some levels to get for slayer (in approximate order but I'm not sure on the summoning):

  • 68 summoning - bunyip
  • 81 dungeoneering (you need 2 million xp, which takes you to level 80, but allowing some tokens for the scroll of life) - rapier
  • 89 herblore (85 with a +4 stew boost) - extreme potions, superantifires
  • 95 prayer - turmoil and soul split
  • 88 summoning - unicorn
  • 96 herblore (91 with a +5 stew boost) - overload
  • 99 summoning - steel titan

I'm sure I missed something but this is most of it.

Max melees according to that, with enough cannon you'll also get ranged to 95+ and you will get a yak as well. Between tasks, farm! It's the best money considering all you need is 74 hunter, 70 farming & 70 herblore to make 250k per run or so.

Quyneax's overview is a fine one for sure. I would strongly recommend using slayer to train your combat stats rather than camping ape atoll or something similar because:

- You gain charms allowing for higher summoning vital for efficient boss hunting in this game.

- You may make a small - reasonable amount of cash from rare drop table drops and the general small drops in slayer. I would recommend taking slayer at a faster pace using a cannon etcetera because it will save you time that you can use to train and make money in the future.

- It provides a variety to your training and helps keep you motivated it also gives you a nice structure to do your farm runs around. After every long task or after every two short tasks something similar.

- You will gain effigies which you can use on the more expensive/difficult skills such as herblore and summoning although if you eventually plan to max I would not recommend this.

- Although you would be able to gain the experience faster camping a monster you would gain no money: meaning you would have to take time to earn it for prayer and herblore rewards you would also gather no charms meaning you would have to camp waterfiends ( longwinded) or rock lobsters (expensive) to increase your summoning to the desired level.

tl;dr Slayer is the way to go.
