Java Issues (LOCK PLEASE :))

Recommended Posts

Due to the log in issues, I tried to uninstall an older Java and load the newer version, but my computer won't let me download it at all.

I have an XP computer and it should have been able to install the newer version easily. Any help you can provide? :|

Try going to...

http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk-6u29-download-513648.html

...and grabbing the latest JDK 6 (6u29) manually. If you can download that file, then you should be able to launch it and get java working again. :shades:

BTW, how did you try to remove the other Java install? Also, what browser are you running currently?

I use Firefox on Windows XP. Not huge on tech knowledge, but I used my control pad to remove my Java. I recently used a system restore to get it back since Java wouldn't let me reinstall a previous program. Sadly, after doing this, my window + tabs automatically close on me the moment I load something requiring Java.

I assume the Windows Intel Itanium on the list (which I downloading) will be the one that would work for me?

Itanium is another processor architecture, so no, it won't work for you. Have you removed all the java installations? Are you at least able to download it? If the issue is the download, which is what you are saying in the OP, you can ask a friend or if you have another computer that is accessible for the download you can get the installer and copy it to your computer using a usb key.

Don't have a friend nearby, so cannot ask them to download it. By "all installations", it was everything associated with Java (including jagex caches)?

EDIT: Found out what was preventing me form installing the newer version. You can lock now.

What was it? It's always best to post the solution once you solve the problem so hopefully someone else who stumbles upon this thread later is helped as well :)

Turns out I had to get rid of a few things along with the Java itself. Stumbled upon it in a tech support sticky on the RSOF.

I basically had to get rid of anything related to Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE, according to the thread) in the name along with the version of Java.

Under reinstalling java section. I think he explained it better than I could, since I suck at tech. Yeah, you can lock now.
