what armor do I wear? I died (ROL, so not really) the first time, I should easily be able to kil him, I have extremes and 95 prayer, but I didnt the first time do I switch armor before the fight?

 

Any strategies to beat him?

I brought bandos/nezi/dboots switch with one overload, a few super restores, and an inventory of brews. I tried using a war tortoise the first time but it didn't seem to work too well so i used an elemental titan for lower healing. I prayed mage and avoided all his specials as usual and got it on my third try.

RoL should be unnecessary unless you're using barrows since you keep medallion on death.

Yeah no use for the ROL. I just went with void, wasn't exactly a difficult fight.

 

Make sure you can carry some super energies though as thats the only way you can get koed. When he uses the shadow attack make sure your character is facing directly away from him. Ex. If he is looking west, your character should also be facing west. Its also best to pray mage and kite, as you take very little damage that way. To dodge the blood spatter attacks, you just need to run around and not run on top of the same spot twice. I found a BOB with monks to be enough to finish Vanstrom so you should be fine. Oh and I didnt use overloads (forgot to lol), so you will do fine with extremes.

If you're having trouble with the blood attacks, run from the flying form's attacks like you would with Luminescent Icefiend, don't bother trying to get attacks in while he's in that form.

I think you have to attack him a few times while he's up there, or he will never come down.
