January 29, 201214 yr I figured I'd try and make one of these lists myself. Instead of doing all of my top albums, I'll be doing my top few albums per genre. I listen to most genres, but there's a few I don't listen to enough to say I have top albums. So if/when you notice I missed a few genres, that's most likely why. I won't be listing any artist's names twice, even if they cover multiple genres.Note: Albums are listed in no particular order. [hide=Rock]The Resistance - Muse A beautiful album in my opinion. Matthew Bellamy's voice combined with powerful lyrics make for a pretty awesome listen. The album was inspired by George Orwell's 1984, which just happens to be my favourite novel. Favourite Track: Guiding Light 2. Riot - Paramore Damn, do I love this album. It makes me really sad that Paramore has broken up since this, but this album is what got me into Paramore. Most people I know have heard "Misery Business" and liked it, but hadn't heard much else from them. If you're one of those people, check this album out - you won't be disappointed. Favorite Track: Hallelujah [/hide] [hide=Hardcore] Saosin - Saosin Not quite sure if you could call it "Hardcore" but regardless, this is quite a nice album. (As a drummer,) I found the drums in this album to be especially amazing. It makes me sad that the vocalist left the band, as his voice was quite unique and went well with the instrumentals. Favourite Track: You're not alone[/hide] [hide=Acoustic] The Art of Motion - Andy McKee I don't know much about playing guitar, but I can tell that Andy McKee is a phenomenal guitar player. I suggest watching him perform the songs on youtube rather than just listening to the music. It's amazing. Favourite Track: Drifting [/hide] [hide=Punk/Punk Rock] Siren Song of the Counter Culture For years, I've been listening to this album and some of the tracks still give me goosebumps. Tim's rough vocals and poetic lyrics make this my favourite album, by my favourite band. Favourite Track: Paper Wings 2. American Idiot - Green Day Yes, I consider Green Day to be punk. I know many die-hard punk fans that get angry at the mention of Green Day, but I've always enjoyed them. I grew up to some of the songs on this album, so there's the nostalgia factor there for me too. Favourite Track: Jesus of Suburbia [/hide] [hide=Rap] Fight With Tools - Flobots I'm not a huge rap fan, but I do quite enjoy this album. Original lyrics and unique instrumentals make this an enjoyable listen. Favourite Track: Rise [/hide] [hide=Pop-Country] Speak Now - Taylor Swift No, I'm not kidding; I like Taylor Swift. I admit, the lyrics are about as cliché as a 13 year old girl's Tumblr page. But something about this album appeals to me. Favourite Track: Last Kiss [/hide] [hide=Indie Rock] Torches - Foster the people This is one of the few Indie-rock albums I enjoy. Not going to say too much about it; I'm sure you've all heard tracks from it on the radio. Favourite Track: Helena Beat [/hide] [hide=Heavy] Doppelganger - The Fall of Troy To most, this album sounds messy. I'm not sure if the genre is considered "Heavy", but I couldn't think of anywhere else to put it. Favourite Track: Act One, Scene One [/hide] [hide=Jazz] Take Five - Dave Brubeck A lesser known group. If you're a jazz fan, I suggest giving it a listen. Purely instrumental, no vocals. Favourite Track: Strange Meadow Lark [/hide][hide=Religious] Five Score and Seven Years Ago - Relient K I'm not religious at all, but I still love Relient K. They don't force Religion into their songs, and almost never mention god or Jesus. So if you're like me, and are not religious at all, you can still enjoy this album. Favourite Track: Faking My Own Suicide (This song damn near made me cry. Listen to it!) [/hide] [hide=Progressive Rock] Moving Pictures - Rush As a drummer, it's impossible for me to not enjoy Rush. Holly shit, Peart's an amazing drummer. Favourite Track: Tom Sawyer. [/hide] [hide=Classic Rock] Greatest Hits - Journey A few beautiful songs in it. It's quite clear to me why this album is considered a classic. Favourite Track: Faithfully [/hide] [hide=Pop-Rock] Favorite Fix - Artist Vs Poet Pop-Rock doesn't usual appeal to me. This album even annoys me at times. But I still listen to it, so I felt like I should include it. Favourite Track: Miserably loving you [/hide] [hide= Alt Rock] This is War - 30 Seconds to Mars I've always loved this album since I first heard it. The songs don't sound quite alike, and it's almost as if they come from completely different bands. I suggest giving it a listen; it's one of my very favourite albums. Favourite track: Closer to the Edge [/hide] And that's all! Sorry for the short list. I'll add more albums as I think of them.
January 29, 201214 yr Resistance? But that's their worst album. Past that, the list (From what I know, which is just Rush, Foster the People and The Fall of Troy) is alright. #KERR2016/17/18/19/20/21. #rpgformod
January 29, 201214 yr I was listening to Fighting With Tools as I read this. Couldn't agree more, though I prefer Handlebars (if you haven't seen for it yet, be sure to check it out, it really adds to the experience). Nice list.
January 29, 201214 yr Handlebars was actually the first song that I'd heard by them (Actually it was White Flag Warriors, but handlebars was the first song I heard that was done 100% by them). I prefer Rise for some reason, though. I'll add a few more to the list right now, and will probably add one or two more albums into each genre. There's a few that I just have to include, even if they're not at the top of the genre for me.
January 29, 201214 yr Doppelganger [and their other albums] are considered Mathcore, which I believe was the term you were looking for. Nice to see someone with some variety. January 29, 201214 yr I wasn't alive when Dookie was released. I would have been about 8 years old for American Idiot.

February 11, 201214 yr Having seen Andy McKee live, I completely agree. Don Ross and Antoine Dufour are both damn good in that genre too, all drawing from Michael Hedges style. I know it's basically a huge Mars Volta circlejerk here sometimes, but seriously check them out if you want to see some amazing drumming. Also, I wasn't alive when Dookie was released. I would have been about 8 years old for American Idiot. Holy Shit. Last.Fm My Bloggy Proud to have served on Tip.it Crew
