Spamming Threads

So as the staff may know, and others that now about LOTPW, it was locked for being a spam thread, BUT recently they have made a funny pictures thread. Which to assume its going to be spam, and in the rules of what they enforced on LOTPW:

"There's a reason we created this forum with a strict "no spamming" rule. There's a reason a "spam forum" has always been on our suggestion black list. There's a reason we don't allow a "random images" thread in Off-Topic. There's a reason why we never wanted to implement a shoutbox. These things all boil down to spam. Tip.It is not the place for spam and it is not something we want in our community. If you want to have random conversations with friends, spam quotes, and share random GIFs, there are other places to do that (Skype chats, IRC channels, your own forum, etc.)."

 

Yes we have been out of line multiple times and we have been given a second chance, I am just doing this for another chance. People that posted regularly have been known to piss off certain staff members and say atrocious things to and behind their backs, but that's their natural self. They have pushed it far and some of them have seen the consequences to what they did. And now with over 9,000 pages, I, as long with other would not like to lose LOTPW. Also quoted :

 

"We have tried to be very very lenient with the forum/thread here as it is meant to be fun! I would dare say, it's not fun for some of the regular visitors anymore. We were considering locking the thread but the old timers/regular of the thread worked really hard to get this thread to the point it is at, and we want to respect the effort."

 

I know many of the staff members have had to cut back on wanting the thread locked multiple times, but there has been staffed that enjoyed the thread, and would go there to enlighten their day.

 

So as to this, my friends and I would please like to hear more on this matter, and they also could provide with some material to aid me. Also I am taking this seriously and don't want reasons to be dumb and stupid, as I started out in the funny pictures thread.

To me though, the funny pictures isn't spam. The point of it is to post funny pictures, which it does. Last one to post wins however had no point, no aim, it was simply turned into a chatroom, and therefore Spam. While the funny pictures thread may not be the most thought provoking, it does have a point, and therefore isn't simply a spam thread. Now if you wanted to replace LOTPW with something along the lines of a chatroom thread, I think there would be more of a case. However, it wasn't a forum game and was spam, so was simply locked.

LOTPW's aim was to simply be the last one to post, yes it did have its moments of one person lag posting pages and pages or doing it the old fashion way. The reason it turned into a chatroom type deal is cause that's how it just went. It was like the Today thread but in game form, we had our discussions about world wide things in the thread, also had those days of just being platitudinous, or days or just saying random shennanigans to be the last poster on the thread for a few seconds to a few hours.

You know I enjoyed the thread but it was getting out of hand. A few users ruined it for the few, despite the best efforts of the mods/admins. Several warnings were given, beyond inappropriate posts being posted, staff harassment, ect ect.

 

It was not a decision that was taken lightly be the staff... reading through the conversation it was a very hard decision. Again, they tried, some of the users seeming taunted the mods to lock it. I back up the staff''s decision to lock it based on the above facts.

 

Now, I hope all is well with the users who made that thread home. I really do. I don't see how unlocking the thread would change anything, the same users would come back, they could be warned/banned, but then they would complain about the mods in the thread and it would be the whole circle all over again.

 

I would recommend a skype chat or something to that extent for the LOTPW thread community. Staff uses the chat rooms for business and pleasure and we find it quite accommodating.

Unfortunately I didn't particularly want the LOTPW topic to be locked, however I fully understood the reasons for the necessity of it.

 

In relation to the Funny Images topic, the decision to bring that to OT was completely unrelated to the LOTPW thread. I had in fact suggested it to some staff members before locking the LOTPW even came to light. I recall many years ago having the topics, and they did well with the exception of a few people posting inappropriate content/flooding it by double, triple etc posting. I fought for it and brought it back as a nice addition to OT.

 

As your post says, we don't allow a random image topic in OT, and that remains. The point to the Funny Image topic is to post funny images, and so long as people abide by that, they aren't spamming. A random image thread would have no point/direction, hence us disallowing its existence in OT.

 

As n_odie said, a Skype Chat would work quite well for the LOTPW community, and I'm sure numerous people on the staff team would love that chat also. :thumbup:
