So some people at the fishing guild were talking yesterday about how as your fishing level increases, your ratio of lower level finish to higher level fish starts to skew towards higher. The specific case they were talking about is that as your fishing level increases, the fish you catch at a tuna/sword spot start to transfer half a percent from tuna to swordfish per level.

 

Is there any data that supports this? I searched through the web a little bit but I couldn't find any refutation or confirmation of this..

I don't think anyone has compiled the ratios and published them anywhere that I can recall. That said, when doing tests for a guide I intended on writing but innevitably gave up on, I did take the ratio for level 80, so I guess if you get a few more samples, it could show a broad trend.

 

At level 80:

160 tuna/h

130 swordfish/h

These numbers assume no dropping of wither fish, and are noted with Stiles.

i have 31m fish xp so lvl 109 and it still is slow xd

We've proven that distribution is a function of level, but not what the ratios are for tuna/swordfish.

You'll notice that there is only a loose correlation between level and distribution.

It's not too hard to imagine a mechanism that would cause this. If we assume the catch rates for tuna and swordfish both increase at an identical linear rate, we'd expect them to trend closer together, relatively, as your level increases. For example, if the ratio started at 3:4 and the catch rate for each went up by 1 per level, you'd get 4:5, then 5:6, then 6:7, and so on--gradually approaching 1:1.

 

And since we do observe a similar pattern in the swordfish/tuna ratio as we level up, with the ratio at 99 being very close to 1, this seems like a pretty likely model, although I don't know that we have enough data to say for sure.
