Hello fellow people, I am in need of help, I am a player from 2003 and quit about when Torva and whatnot was about to be released, I've missed all the info and stuff that happened after that, now I've logged on runescape to get back into the game but I am super overwhelmed by all these new stuff, I don't even know what I should be wearing as a meleer, all these hitpoint bonuses on armor, dual-wielding and whatnot is super confusing, I don't even know what kind of weapons or items there is anymore that is really good etc, I don't know what I should be even using, i.e a whip and a defender or double whip? I am very confused and I need your help!

TLDR: 2003 player quit before torva need help overwhelming!!!

Start with the ingame walkthrough on EOC that the game has. It's on the tab next to your inventory that looks like a question mark.

I've done this now and still do not know what weapon is best to start off and whatnot, was planning on doing some regular slayer and whatnot and was wondering which weapon and if I should be dual-wielding? Also what kind of armor is best against mages / melee's / ranged creatures when slaying that doesn't cost over 10m to buy etc? I need a runescape 101 lesson :P

General guidelines:

2h > 1h

Higher tier > lower tier

Correct weakness > other styles

So on a crush weak monster, use a maul.

On a bolt weak monster, use a royal crossbow.

On fire weak monsters, use a chaotic staff with fire surge.

Sometimes a style has no high-tier weapon, for example there is no tier 76-80 thrown weapon*. The generic weakness is the next best thing, any ranged instead of thrown.

Then, on a throwing weak monster, use a zaryte bow or royal crossbow.

On a slash weak monster, use a maul.

Sometimes, a style is unavailable altogether, for example when dungeoneering you might have only two styles. The combat triangle:

Ranged > Magic > Melee > Ranged

Ranged = Ranged, Magic = Magic, Melee = Melee

So on a slash weak monster, use ranged.

On a bolt weak monster, use magic.

On a fire weak monster, use melee.

*Morrigan's javelins are still bloody expensive, don't bother.

tl;dr

maul royal crossbow cstaff

"On a slash weak monster, use a maul." What kind of maul? and last time I checked maul's didn't have a slashing mechanic but a crushing one :P Thank you so much for the info though!!

"EDIT"

If you're referring to the chaotic maul I don't have that one since I am a PvE fanatic so I never bothered to get it, so chaotic maul is the better one for PvE and general slaying than a rapier / longsword and a shield / defender? or is dual-wielding better in this case if I plan on using a one-handed weapon?

"EDIT2"

Oh and I noticed there's no strength bonus anymore but crit bonus, however there's no crit bonus on fighter torso etc just certain items, are fighter torso's and whatnot now kind of useless? What about helm of neitiznot? How is the barrows set now and which one is the better one to use for PvE and regular slayer?

Don't plan on using one. Unless you can afford drygore a chaotic maul is the melee weapon of choice.

Mauls indeed cannot slash. But any monster weak to slash, is also weaker to melee than to other styles (and weaker to ranged than to magic). The point is that because there is no slash weapon as powerful as the maul, you should use the maul, despite it being crush and not slash.
