Been away from RS now for most of the new year. Been on every now and then but nothing too serious. I've missed quite a few of the updates and was just wondering about a few things. I know they "fixed" duel wielding, and i've heard it's on par with 2h melee now. From one of the other forum threads i read that Chaotic Claws were now a good option for duel wielding and just wanted to confirm that this was in fact the case?

Also, where would 2h be better than dw and the other way around (aside from Multi Combat of course, where 2h>dw).

 

Also when it comes to maging, it seems that my trusty Master Wand is now pretty much shit. I tried doing QBD with it last night and i spent over 5 minutes on the first 2 phases. I tried it again with a SoL and it went much better, but still not as fast as it used to be. So in term of Magic PvM what would be the best way for me to go now? I can't really afford Ahrims/Virtus right now so those are pretty much out of the question. Would it be best for me to get a Chaotic Staff?

I know the thread you are talking about as far as the dual wielding goes. I don't have claws and such but based on the weapons I do have, that thread is pretty much correct.

 

A) For hitting multiple targets and actively using abilities use a 2h.

B) For hitting 1 target at a time, momentum or abilities, dual wield.

1) The best weapons for dual wield would be claws or any 4 tick (fastest) weapon. So using something like battleaxes and longsword receive a penalty.

2) The abilities average accuracy comes from the average of the main and offhand tiers.

I'm not sure myself, but a great way to test weapon damage is at the Combat Academy. Just set up a dummy and keep using slice until you get a crit (ability crits are just the max hit). Mark down the damage, then switch weapons and compare their max hits.

 

While this does show you which has higher damage, you have to remember that accuracy is very important too. Usually higher damage weapons will also have higher accuracy (because they're higher level items in general) but there are a few anomalies in which this isn't the case. For example, Elite Enhanced Excalibur has higher DPS than level 80 offhands, but only about 60% the accuracy (thankfully offhand accuracy doesn't matter much unless you're autoattacking).

 

For magic the higher the tier the better. SOL is good for all around but for something like QBD or GWD you'd want the best you can afford to get. So if at all possible get a Chaotic Staff.

 

However, for you are trying to make money off of QBD then you should be using range. Chaotic crossbow or better, best being the Royal crossbow.

 

Lastly, the new quest The World Wakes unlocks new abilities. not sure if you've done it yet, but you probably should.

Ah alright thanks. I was still maging QBD because i thought it was better. I guess i should start ranging since i have a Royal xBow somewhere in my bank. I should probably get working on some Dungeoneering too then. As for the new quest, i doubt i can do it. Some of the quests required to do it (ROTM) requires me raising my Def, which isn't really an option for me. But thanks for the rest of the info :)

The new quest has only a 140 combat requirement, no quest. But because you haven't done RotM you can't get the full rewards that comes with doing it (best in game ring, new slayer mobs and pet). However, I very much recommend you do it as this quest is suppose to be "LIFE CHANGING" (and it is). The rewards for completing the story without the other quests are well worth it.

Oh i should have probably read the update a bit better, didn't realise i can do part of it. I shall get working on that then.
