I was there on that fateful day when

 

 

 

You stole the leaves from the trees

 

 

 

Leaving them bare and unprotected

 

 

 

And dying by degrees from disease

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I watched as the fertile earth

 

 

 

turned to desert grain by grain

 

 

 

The insects flew to greener pastures

 

 

 

Now only the parasites dare to remain

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Birds gasped last tiny breaths

 

 

 

Fluttering weakly down to die

 

 

 

The sky turned black and angry

 

 

 

And the sun began to cry

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The rivers and streams that once

 

 

 

Sang and played to my heart

 

 

 

Flowed to a much better place

 

 

 

As the earth split and tore apart

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I stood alone in the barren waste

 

 

 

Of a life which once held a dream

 

 

 

Till the moment my body joined yours

 

 

 

And eternity began to scream.
