Lews_Therin
But a screen-read can't recognise the numbers if the size and font is always different. I'm sure youve seen those things where you get a code in the form of a picture but it is slightly distorted so that it can only be recognised by humans. To use PINs to battle macroers, Jagex would have to: 1) Make PINs mandatory 2) Force users to enter the PIN every time they access their bank 3) Either remove the drop boxes, or PIN those as well (defeating their purpose) 4) Add wierd font/text size to the PIN screen Also, even with a wierd font, it is much easier to read a number on a screen than a letter (nevermind a whole word!). There are only 10 digits (compared to 26 letters), and digits are easier to tell apart (compare 7 and 9 to e and o). PINs would have to be made longer, to increase the chance of a screen reader messing up a digit. ------------------------ This is a bad idea. This will limit macroers to 30 minutes at a time. and it isnt a big deal to legit players; if you play for 2 hours a day thats 4 times MAX 3) Yes, drop boxes would have to be removed 4) I would be worthwile for jagex to put the effort in to use distorted numbers if it does stop macroers Think about this, even if a macro program has a 75% chance of getting each digit right (which i doubt), with a 4 digit pin there is a less than 1 in 3 chance of getting the whole thing right (0.75*0.75*0.75*0.75=0.316) RSN: Ste_Boz
Butigroove
PIN's are to stop keyloggers, not macros. Simple as that, mandatory PINs would make things harder for legit players, rather than the Macroers.
ste_boz
Why is entering a 4 digit pin, taking about 5-10 seconds, making life so much harder for you? RSN: Ste_Boz
bedman
Why is entering a 4 digit pin, taking about 5-10 seconds, making life so much harder for you? Well, if you think about it: 5 sec is nothing. But I do see with myself, that I am annoyed when I have to type my pin, and when you are for instance smithing at varrock west bank, you have to bank every 20 sec, so it would be very annoying. antonwhy
I support the idea in theory. I would support anything to stop autoer ruining the game for the rest of us. But i reckon u should need combat lvls to do a certain skills. For example: u would need lvl 40 combat to cut yews 30 to fsih lobsters.etc This way most players on the whole wouldnt be affected except those who have skill pures. But they will understand its for the good of the game. Wondering what to do with life .....
Lee_Turrell
Having to type a random word dosen't stop autoers, plain and simple, just look at RSC, with the introduction of Optical Character Recognition programs it completley defeated the point of random words because these programs could break down the charecters to work out which letter they were. Sad as it is, the only way to stop autoers altogether taking over is mudclient updates and mass bannings to stir them off their tracks. Here's 3 worthless comments and one worthwhile one. 1) It would annoy me. Just like Fatigue in RSC did. 2) Several legit players play for far longer than 2 hours a day. Though if I could deal with fatigue in RSC, I could deal with a mandatory bank pin. 3)Never used it anyways. 4)It would not be worthwhile for Jagex to even attempt this. Why? Because they had a shocking failure with a similar method in RS Classic. I suggesst you go look for some screenshots of RSC's fatigue system to get an idea of how the letters in it looked. You couldn't do anything if you got to 0% fatigue. So you had to sleep. First in a bed, later in a sleeping bag. They gave a random word, and some messed-up looking letters. To wake up, you had to type in the word correctly. It wasn't too long before auto programs could recognise the words and type them. With the Bank PIN system, any auto program would just have to be given the PIN number, and then look for the PIN numbers and click them. If it can click coal by sight, it could do the same with numbers, no matter if they're randomly placed and weird looking. In short: when trying to reinvent the wheel, why make the wheel square twice when it failed to roll the first time?
