Make7upu101
My parents have decided for me that I'm going to do this program this summer. They say that it'll be great on my college transcript. At first I hated the idea, taking my chances with complete strangers. The more I thought about it the more I started to think of all the possibilities. My parents have told me I can pretty much choose any program out of the booklet. The thing I can do include rock climbing, kayaking, hiking, and much more. Most include a solo which sounds pretty cool. My dad did this when he was my age. Just wanted to know if anybody here has done this program (or similar programs). Tell where of course, how long (I'm thinking about 2 weeks), and what kind of stuff you did.
____
I've done close enough and you won't regret it. Personally I suggest the rock climbing ;)
microtosh
i went for a 5 day 4 night course. wow, it was a totally whole new experience for me. away from the "hygienic" city life, you enter this dirty world of nature where you get mud and other stuff on you. you trek in the forest even if it is raining and man, rock climbing was very fun. yea, i was like you, thinking of all the possibilities ( i was very pessimistic about the camp ). But it seriously is fun, especially kayaking. you meet new friends and well, you bond with them and learn more about outdoor skills and the importance of cooperation. me and my other friends were stuck in this huge storm off the coasts and we had to keep paddling even if it was very cold and very wet. man, there was lightning too. hahaz. enjoy your camp. oz
this is a bit of a coincidence. i did a compulsory 9 day course about 4 weeks ago for school. i was lucky in that i knew and liked (almost all) of my group, so it will be a bit different going with strangers, but make friends early and it should be fun. from my experience i reccomend you make sure someone in your group actually has a working watch with an alarm.. and i know they tell you not to bring extras and all that, and dont bother with lollies and crap like that, sneak as much actual filling food as you can, there was definetly NOT ENOUGH FOOD! :P it might be different for a non-school group though. ____
Speaking of "sneaking in" food - if you take kind of junk, make sure it's chocolate. And I mean real blocks of chocolate. Not lousy Mars, Snickers, KitKats and Chomp, etc.
Phil
away from the "hygienic" city life, you enter this dirty world of nature where you get mud and other stuff on you. you trek in the forest even if it is raining oh no! not mud and rain?!? :o rofl! you make it sound like people here have never been outside. This programme sounds similar to the Duke of Edinburgh award that I did. Good experience that I am now glad I did. Or maybe it's nothing like it, dunno. tintmangbpack
That does sound like fun and while I have never done the camp, those activities are essential do my entire summer. It would expect it to be really fun and a very worthwhile activity. Your true character is what you are like when you believe there are no repercussions. _k0m0d0_
I suggest Kayaking or Rafting When I was younger, I went about twice to a vacation summer program, and all I did was pool>food>soccer>food>run>pool>nature things>food>sleep  By nature things I mean: Kayaking, rafting, hiking, bike, walk in the "forest"... ~komodo
