Metal Borders Tutorial

Featured Replies

This is a tutorial on how to make sw33t borders. It works better on bigger sigs, but it looks ok on small ones.

Step 1

Take the image that you want to put a border on. I used part of an old render.

Step 2

Ok now right click the lasso tool img2.gif and select the option Polygon Lasso

img3.gif.

Step 3

Select the outline of what you want the border to look like, for straighter lines select the shift key.

Now go to select, then press inverse.

Make a new layer then fill in the area with white.

Step 4

Change the foreground color to a light shade of gray, and the background to a dark shade of gray img6.gif. Now go to Layer, Layer Style, Bevel and Emboss.

img7.gif.

Leave those settings as they are, but click on gradient overlay, then change the gradiant to Foreground to Background. img8.gif

Also set the angle to -90 for a better look.

Then click on stroke and set the size to 1 and the color to black

Slap on some text, and you have yourself a nice sig :D.

Here is what I came out with:

If you have any questions, just post them right here.

Pretty good tut, you left it very basic and easy to understand. The pictures pretty much explain how to make the boarder by themselves. You should maybe add on there how to make a transparent boarder.

very good job

lol my brother had made a transparent border tutorial, it was on the sticky. im gonna see if there is any record of it on my computer.

Could use a noise filter with a motion blur to make it look more like metal.... right now just looks like a b&w gradient... (which it is)
