Possibly add a layer blending change *Select all around it (Using magic wand) and goto Select>Feather.

Depends, the bigger pictures I use 40, you shouldn't go higher than that really. But I tend to use 30-35. :) And for feather it is the same, bigger pictures are about 3-4 px while smaller ones are 2-3 px.
