My thoughts on the essence update

Featured Replies

What Jagex intended to do with the essence update, is to discourage autoers (like the ones in china) to gain real life money by doing this activity.

Instead of choosing to have a difficult-to-solve "random" event that happens often while inside the essence cave, they chose to do this update instead.

With this update, they hope that the non-pure essences, will be worth less than 30-40 each on the market. Because if the non-pure essences are still worty 30-40 each, the autoers still get as much money as before the update.

My question is: will non-pure essences become cheaper than 30 each on the market?

For that to happen, the price of air runes would have to drop significantly. Because, a good runecrafter can make like 5 or more air runes per essense, and at a rate of 10gp per air rune, you get 50gp per essence back. If the non-pure essences are going to be worth less than the 30-40gp they are now, air rune crafters can win more per essence, even if it still goes slow.

But actually, I predict that non-pure essences won't become cheaper than 20gp each, while pure essences could rise above 50gp each. Non-pure essences certainly won't become cheap, everyone who makes basic runes will want to use non-pure essences instead of pure ones, and of course the whole f2p player base will need them.

So actually, this update doesn't significantly reduce the money gained by rune mining autoers, they can still go on with their business by selling non-pure essences, that every starting runecrafter and basic-rune crafter will need (as they won't want to by pure essences for that). This update makes crafting basic runes cheaper, but makes crafting higher runes more expensive. This will result in cheaper basic runes, but more expensive nature, cosmic, law and chaos runes.

Conclusion: this isn't an update that discourages autoers to mine rune essences. It's however an update that changes the rune economy significantly.

If Jagex wants to remove rune mining autoers, they will have to make an often occuring random event, specifically aimed at runeminers, that occurs when you're in the cave, that is hard to solve, but gives a reward that is worth the time and difficulty this often occuring random event takes (in other words, a reward in the form of noted essences in your inventory, and being teleported back next to the rock with your pickaxe).

Runescape: Lodev (Combat level been fixed at 101 for years now, Total level 1500+, playing since march 2002)

Arenascape: Lode (Level 240+ Warlock)

i would say a LOT cheaper basic runes, simply because there is no longer a competition between the p2p and f2p essences, leading to excessive number of Normal Rune essences on F2p, and the best thing that f2p can make are air runes, the price of these airs will plummet (it is already starting to fall from 20 ea to 17-18ea)

This means bad for those world 16 air runner hirers, such as myself as leveling RC is a much more expensive business now.

Jagex certainly would have done much better if it had asked players for opinions how this should be done, but it has a very large impact for both economies (negative largely)

EDIT: though what you say about the prices of ess not dropping below 20ea... unfortunately those lv 3 macro'ers has started to sell them at 15ea, i scored 100k of it recently on world 1...

Which means that if macro'ers continue to macro, they would have to lower the prices to sell their ess, but that means depressing rune ess price overall, and the cycle continues, until it drops to like 5ea or something... (i am a pessimistic person, so pardon me for my views)

I think jagex didn't infrom about it first because if they did all autoers would sell their ess really quick
