Mining and smithing help

Featured Replies

Ok I mine and then smith all the ores etc. and I was wondering from all you high level smithers, how much coal/iron do you mine or buy before you start smithing.. im 63 smithing but I usually only mine 1k coal because I dont come on that often, but im wondering what is the best amount to mine, and then smelt but does not become too tedious (max amount of ores smelted to steel that ive done is about 2k steel bars)

they usually just buy the steel bars and smith them straight, smelting takes too much time if done in bulk

But be aware that assuming you make plates and alch them, that is going to cost you 300 gp per bar that you buy - and that's if you craft your own nats! Not something for the less well-off to consider.

As for your original question, everyone has their own boredom threshold. The most I've smelted in 1 session was 1k steel and that was a serious effort by the end.

Why is 'common sense' so named, when there is so little of it about?
