If you're F2P, I wouldn't bother with Rune essence (at least not anymore). When JAGeX introduced Pure essence, P2P players stopped buying large amounts of regular Rune essence from F2P players, so the merchanting profits from it went down.

 

 

 

Coal and Steel bars are pretty good items. As are Lobsters (cooked) and, in some cases, Tuna.
