fanheader
hey, my smithing level is only 3 and i want to get it higher! my mining level is 63 so i can mine ore fairly fast. i just need to know where and what to make. skeroh
I would go to the SE Varrok Mines and get tons of copper and tin ores from there. Smelt the bars and smith them into the highest thing. After you can make iron bars, make enough iron bars until you can make something iron that gives you higher xp than bronze platebody. Continue smithing iron items until you can make steel bars. WHen you can make steel bars, you can either sell the steel bars, or smelt them. Have fun smithing! Retired from runescape. I will be on every now and then though. :)
fanheader
ok awsome ill get started, when does money start rolling in for smithing? thanks for the help, continue giving me tips guys
dwarfie76
Smithing is a good money maker in p2p with cannonballs. Buying steel bars and smithing cannonballs turns a reasonable profit. Smelting your own bars then making cannonballs is even better. In f2p I'm not sure what you'd really do for cash outside of making plates and alching them. fanheader
how many cannonballs per steel bar and how much are they sold for? I have a plan! lol I could make like a few 1000 steel bars and then become a member for a month and make the bars into cannonballs sell and im left with smithing xp and a ton of money(hopefull)and i will be mining all of my stuff. ishepp
First thing you should do is the knights sword quest. After finishing you get enough xp for about lvl 30, skipping bronze and iron straight to steel! You never need to mine tin or copper. Cannonballs make 4 per bar, and theres a quest you have to do first. Apparently cannonball making is slow. You could smith in F2P, its not too bad, you just don't make a lot of money. But you can buy/mine iron and coal, make steel bars and sell for profit, or smith and not make profit. Or iron platebodies until you get to steel plates. 89/99 farming
fanheader
isnt there like a ring of forging in memer so you make iron bars %100 of the time?anyway ill start that quest now,it better not be hard...Ive done every quest apart from that one...lol(non-member quests that is...) ishepp
Quest isn't hard, theres a lot of walking so fally/varrock teles will help. And watch out for the ice warriors when you mine the blurite. 89/99 farming

Just run fast:P you may want to look at the quest guide before you start that quest. It can save you a lot of time.

wolfboy
Until you get members, you might want to consider selling the bars. Steel bars cost 400 to make (if you buy 2 coal at 150 each and 1 iron at 100) and can sell for 550-600, 550 usually 550. Even if you buy all the ore, that's still at least 150 profit per bar. fanheader
yea,ok i might do that but i only have 300k to spend on ores so is that enough to start buying and making them?
meb
Do the Knight's sword quest, it gives you enough smithing xp to skip iron and bronze smelting. Smelt steel bars till 48 and start making steel plates. Retired 2146 overall - 136 combat - 6 skillcapes Plus I think the whole teenage girl thing will end soon (hopefully), because my girlfriend is absolutely in love with him(she is 18), and im beginning to feel threatened by his [Justin Bieber] dashing looks. wolfboy
yea,ok i might do that but i only have 300k to spend on ores so is that enough to start buying and making them? That's more than I started with. The thing is, if you spend your profit on more ores then the number of bars you make and sell will increase. 300k will buy you enough ores to make 750 bars. Sell those at 550 each you'll get 412,500. Spend that on more ores, and you'll have enough to make 1031 more bars to sell for 567,050. You'll be a millionaire in no time. (Ok, not in no time. Smelting is the most boring and time consuming part of the smithing process I think) Youth ages, immaturity is outgrown; ignorance can be educated and drunkeness sobered, but stupid is forever. jaklumen
Don't forget that the Al-Kharid furnace is closest in F2P to a bank and the anvil next to Varrock bank is closest, but you probably knew that, right?
