Acinonyx
Hello, I'm a level 49 f2p ranger (63 combat) and I've been training on the hill giants for the past couple of days to up my low ranging level. Hill giants are level 28 and I could usually pwn one of them in about 4 or 5 hits. I use a maple shortbow, on rapidfire, with steel arrows. I had the idea of moving on to moss giants since they were higher combat level and also gave big bones, which I bury for prayer exp. I just wanted to know if this is a good idea to try moss giants instead, or stick with hill giants. I recently went to the varrock sewers where the moss giants were and found that it was a multicombat area, where if I attack a moss giant, I usually found myself attacked by a deadly red spider too. And is it a little less crowded in varrock sewers compared to the hill giants' cave? This matters a little bit during the middle of the day where there are tons of people training their combat. So please tell me whether I should stick with hill giants or kill moss giants instead where I can probably get faster exp. And also, does anyone suggest that I get better arrows or anything? My steels seem to be pretty good, and they're cheap enough so if some random noob thief comes and steals them, I won't lose as much. However, would mithril arrows be more effective in training? Bobthefishy
You will get a lot more xp at the moss giants because you don;t ahve to wait around all the time for another to respawn. Also it's multi-combat like you said so you sometimes don't have the moss giant hitting you. im level 76 and IM NOT A NOOB 30- is a noob

Goobore
... I use a maple shortbow, on rapidfire, with steel arrows. At level 49, the max hit for Bronze, Iron, and Steel arrows is 7 Are you sure that you want to keep on paying for Steel arrows? Also, if you pick up your arrows, you can use each one about 4 times. That saves a huge amount of gp. ...I usually found myself attacked by a deadly red spider too. If you use the northern moss spawn then the spiders will not be a problem. And is it a little less crowded in varrock sewers compared to the hill giants' cave? Yes, but since it's multicombat you can always get a piece of each spawn no matter how crowded it gets there. So please tell me whether I should stick with hill giants or kill moss giants instead where I can probably get faster exp. Well, since you get Exp for each arrow hit then the monster level really doesn't matter. What matters is the spawn rate. To level quickly you want to be constantly killing. So unless you really want the big bones or the occasional piece of mith gear, I suggest that you find some spot where there are a lot of lower level monsters and kill those instead. Another alternative is to start (or complete) the Dragon slayer quest. Then you can go range the 3 Mossies on the south side of Crandor Island. There are 2 very nice safe spots to shoot from on the north and north-west sides. And also, does anyone suggest that I get better arrows or anything? My steels seem to be pretty good, and they're cheap enough so if some random noob thief comes and steals them, I won't lose as much. However, would mithril arrows be more effective in training? Well, max hit for mith at your level is 8. So, IMHO, I don't think that they are worth it since you get 7 with the 3 lower arrows types. Oh, and use a Curse spell to pull the monster over to you. It makes it a lot easier to pick up your arrows that way since they will all be in the monsters loot pile at the end. Hope this helps.
Blaze The Movie Fan
Moss Giants I'd say. Too bad you have to bring food since the moss giant island is members only. You don't have to worry about lousy seeds. When I was a F2P I got a lot of times nothing at all by killing thieves. When I fought thieves as a members, I got a lot of times herbs instead of nothing. Well, this gives me a clue that you have to worry about it. The drops are the same as on F2P world, instead of members only stuff you get nothing at all. I'd say moss giants. But watch out for the king scorpions. They will hurt you until you get combat 73.
djfan00002
Even better if you have done the dragon slayer quest you can train on the 3 mossies on Crandor. It isnt multi and as a ranger you can usually have at least 1 to attack at all times.

The basic principle is that you have to be firing shots continuously, thus maximising the xp gained in a certain time. This means avoiding training in places where you have to wait for the NPC to respawn.. I have a f2p pure ranger (56 range, 38 cb). I train with bronze arrows on guards at the black knights fortress. I dont pick up my arrows, but I get extremely fast xp (ish.. 1k xp takes 2.5mins). Bronze arrows are only 20ea on forums, and with my range lvl I get an averabe of 11.6 xp per arrow. About 1.7gp per xp. This is quite cheap compared with other skills... Rambled on abit there srry
