Scams You've Heard of

Ok so one person comes up to me and says, "Do you have a palm leaf? I'll pay you all this for one." (He puts up several mills worth of expensive armour and weapons in trade). Naturally, I don't, so I tell him no, and he tells me to add him and let him know if I get one.

Supposedly by complete chance, 5 minutes later someone else comes along and asks me if i want to buy a palm leaf for 500k, trying to con me into thinking I can make profit.

Here I am supposed to buy for 500k, then both people disappear and I am stuck with a palm leaf which is worth nothing at all, and they split the 500k between them :).

Switching items for similar items right before trading.

Dragon legs = Red Dragon Hide legs or Red pirate legs

Guthan spear = leaf-bladed spear

Granite maul = Rock hammer

Switching amounts of something for a similar amount right before trading.

For example they'll switch 100k something for 1007 of it.

For the above problems just watch the second trade screen!

Any trust scams. For example:

"I'll cut your gems, just give me them and I'll cut them and give them back." (You should trade uncuts for cuts).

"Give me a weapon now and I'll go to the barrows and earn the money and pay you back with it!" (They'll just take your weapon and run off, this goes for any trust trade).

"Give me your password and I'll give you a ton of money!" (Never give your password out, they'll just steal all your stuff and change your recovery questions and such).

"I'm a Player Mod. Give me your password for a current project or I'll ban you." (Player mods have silver crowns by their chat name; Jagex mods have gold crowns. No mods will ever need your password, don't ever give it).

Combat 116+; Total 1900+; All Hard Tasks; (Nearly) All quest points; (Nearly) All skills 60+; An aquatic moose ninja.

Currently: Using 63 hunter to get some of those "Chins", then I'm going to range stuff down. Interruptions of agility when I feel like it, as well.

And lucky enough to get 4 Dragon and 6 Barrow Drops.

[hide]Kwimbob now looks exactly like me in real life except for hair color. Yes, this means I look exactly like the protagonist of that certain anime that my second character, Faye_V is also named after. Yes, I bought a jacket that also looks like his. No in real life I don't have a slain bear to sling over my shoulders. Yes, I'm that skinny even if I no-life it for years in basements. No, I can't shoot a gun. Yes, I can win any other strategic video game you have never played - because I probably have, ahahaha. And yes, I also have brown eyes, yet one of my eyes looks different from the other. And yes, I'm completely oblivious to the [real] world around me as I constantly engineer new solutions to daily problems in my head. When I get hungry, all that isn't food can wait. When I'm sleepy - nothing is of any priority in front of sleep. But at any other time, I never slow down. Never give up. Never Surrender. Makes for a good life.

Speaking of the player mod scam, can real player mods use advanges to say something like, "Gimme your full Dharok's armour, or you will be permenantly banned" to get unfair advanges? Just wondering.

Of course they could, but if they did, they'd be stripped of modship and banned just as anyone else.... so its doubtful they would (especially since they screen people very throughly before offering PMod)

Common ones ive seen:

Trim Armour (The real cute ones not only steal your armour but make you pay for this 'service' as well. Members CANNOT do it.)

Swapping similar items on the trade screen quickly, hoping you wont notice on the 2nd screen (ie. 100k gp becomes 10k gp, rune full becomes addy full, granite maul becomes rock hammer)

Duplicate Items (drop it and press alt - f4 in a remote location being the most common)

Anything trust trade (Give me item and i'll give it back. Sometimes its to build 'friendship', sometimes cause they 'just want a picture of themselves in your rune(g))

Youve won Free Membership (involves giving them password and bank pin usually)

Team merchanters (ie. Person A on one side of square buys maple logs for 200gp, person B on other side is selling for 100gp. You buy as many as possible, trying to make a quick profit, only to discover that once you bought em, Person A doesnt need em anymore)

Not really a scam, but those teams that hold the doors closed while a player is getting killed (ie. wine of zamarok) or that lead players into death (ie, lumby swamp caves without a light source) are cheap but common too.
