Whats better out of:

AMD 2.4Ghz

or

Intel P4 3.4Ghz

There's more to it than brand and frequency.. You can't really make an accurate decision without things such as what architecture, what socket?

Socket AM2? Socket LGA775? K8?..

Yeh u need more detail.

Got links to pages with technical info, but given that i personally prefer intel (not an invite for pro AMD users) just cause thats the one ive grown up with.

But like to a google search on the model and give us links showing us that sorta stuff.

Aussie Aussie Aussie,

:D

There is no need.

AMD @ 2.4GHz destroys an Intel Pentium 4 @ 3.4GHz.

Simply because AMD makes MUCH better use of it's clocks per, than the P4 series. AMD have destroyed Intel for just about 3 years untill now, it took Intel a good 3+ years to figure out it's not all about GHz. So there new Conroe CPU is the best currently, but AMD is countering it soon.

But for gaming; AMD.

You doing just your homework? Then the Intel...

And provided we don't actually know what he wants to use it for, you just destroyed your own 'well-put' statement.

AMD is more of an overclock kind of CPU Meant for power users. Intel, well it really just sucks bad. But a plusfor intel they make much better use of memory managment...But not 4 long with release of am2 around the corner>

Its the best decision you can make, trust me!

Socket AM2 has been out since late May.

AMD has better memory management IMO because the memory controller is on-die which is faster. When you buy an AMD CPU you buy an AMD CPU and a memory controller.

Intel's Conroe will most likely have better clock-per-clock results, though.

ditto...

but each companies have there pros and cons.

alot of you seem to underestimate that the Intel CPU is actually very powerful, it's good competition for AMD. The main idea floating around is that AMD is good at gaming and Intel is good at everything else and this is still true. Intel are especially good at creating overclockable processors, even the Celeron will overclock like mad, i've seen people overclock a Celeron to 4ghz on air cooling! and it smashed the encoding benchmarks in all but the most expensive of AMD processors.

AMDs are good for gaming which a majority of people use it for but there's a large majority of people that need processors for encoding and this is where the Intel Processor shines.

So until AMD can find out how to have a long data pipeline and have good games performance, Intel will always be there for competition

You havn't seen AMDs X2s processor preformance in encoding then have you? Dual core between AMD and Intel are very close.

Who cares about conroe! It's not released yet. People are talking about processors that are on the market now. How do you know AMD doesn't have a trick up it's sleeve to combat this?

Yes Intel will take the preformance crown again after 3 years. That doesn't mean everybody's going to be throwing away there old computers to buy this right away. If this is some godlike processor then how come people arn't waiting for it and buying a computer now? Most people who are not techy will just go to bestbuy or look on Dell to find the cheapest thing and not look up reviews about how fast it is. Dell is selling AMD computers now, so intel will lose some market share, or atleast stay the same.

There's always something around the corner that's going to be faster, I can say: yeah, but don't buy conroe wait and buy K8L it's going to be better than Conroe. There's always going to be something faster, get use to it.

I'm saying X2s can compete in media programs with Intel and not just be good in gaming. Using todays processors and not next months.

My rant is over. The whole thing is not directed at Diminished2b.
