goblinmatt12
http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/ ... 110B&s=dhs Im selling psp and using some birthday money to buy a new comp 8-) Only thing is its not much money #-o How bad is that computer ^. You think i'll have any chance of playing....counter strike? I doubt it. What would be the least expensive graphics card I could get to upgrade it(non dell)? Im noob at comps btw. And what is the memory of the graphics card on that comp ^? EDIT: And PLEASE dont say "lolz that is teh suckzorz mak3s y0r own comp n00b"
weezcake
Well I haven't played Counterstrike in a while, but I'm sure it will be able to. http://compreviews.about.com/od/budgetd ... onB110.htm I looked up the computer on google and it said that it lacks a PCI/AGP slot for upgrading your video card. :? It also states that the onboard video has 64mb of video memory, which isn't enough, if you're looking to play the newer PC games :) From what I see, this computer is able to do basic tasks (word processing, CD/DVD burning, etc), but it's definitely not a gaming computer, which I'm assuming you're looking for. If you could include more information: your budget, what you'd be using this computer for (gaming, work, etc?).. we could help and find a computer that better suits your needs. ==================================Retired tip.it moderator.Teaching and inspiring. goblinmatt12
 man that stinks. So theres NO way to upgrade the card..darn. Im selling psp for 200$ tomorrow 8-) And should get about another 200$ in a week. I could probally borrow a little so my budget is a whopping.....450$ :-k Im mainly just looking to play some runescape, do some internet, and hopefully play counter strike. In the future I would like to maybe upgrade stuff, so im getting kinda worried. EDIT: I asked on another site and they said I should be able to play fine! :D I wasnt talking about cs source btw. Nadril
Oh lol, you aren't talking about source? The minimum req's for CS 1.6 is like a 166mhz processor and 24mb ram... or maybe 322mhz procesor lol.
ClimaxCorpse
that should run CS1.6 perfectly fine..but overall it's a very low end system for the price. you could custom build one using parts from newegg.com for cheaper, and better.
goblinmatt12
Cheaper then 400?!? Really? Would it still be less with shipping? If so can somone help me out a bit. I have keyboard, mouse, speakers btw.
blade995
As much as I hate the celeron I do suggest this computer. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp ... 9040473547 Graphics Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814102650 With that it's under your $450 buget and you can play all games atleast at low quality. Maybe higher quality for CounterStrike. EDIT: Yes you probily could build a system for under $400 that's alot better than these pre builts. goblinmatt12
EDIT: I could find this at local best buy right? Somone on another site recomended one too. Is the graphics card needed to play cs? I would like to play right when I buy, not wait for it to arrive. Anything I could buy from a store? Thanks so much guys. EDIT: Is that with moniter? blade995
**** I forgot to see if that came with a monitor. I checked I don't see one :( . You could buy a graphics card in store but it would be more expensive than that online website. I don't suggest gaming with that computer I suggested unless you buy a graphics card. EDIT: Here's something I found that comes with a monitor and good onboard graphics. You could play games on this without buying a graphics card. Although if you diside in the future to upgrade to a graphics card, you can. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp ... 8100050002

weezcake
Your monitor should be fine. You'd probably want to upgrade to a better one if you want a bigger one, or if your current one starts having problems. ==================================Retired tip.it moderator.Teaching and inspiring. zonda
You can get awesome deals on line if you look around and get a little creative. I built a computer for $500 that can play HL2 and games like Quake 4 or FarCry on high detail level with a constant 30 fps, and on other levels a good 60 fps. I recycled alot though, I recycled the floppy and CD Drives from my old computer, same with the keyboard and mouse I have and I got the monitor free (19 inch flat panel) because it was a show model and the company couldn't sell it. The rest was built with 500$, and that was a year ago... the stuff I bought is much cheaper now and, like I said, can run newer games just fine. You will deffinitly need a video card... on board video is like... I don't think theres a word to descibe it? Anyway, if you want to game: good video card, good processor, and plenty of RAM are all you need. But if your talking CS 1.6, well you can play that with pretty much anything. Maybe not amazingly... but that all depends on if your going to be going to competitions and LANS with it, or just casually getting owned online in pubs. ... goblinmatt12
I really dont know much about computers. Theres no way I could build my own. Im still a little unsure about the graphics card. I was thinking of dell becuase its ready to go, even if its not all that great.

weezcake
The bestbuy computer looks like a good computer that's within your budget. I don't see any reason against it. :) ==================================Retired tip.it moderator.Teaching and inspiring.
Sinkhan
I thought CS was generally on the same lvl of requirements as Rainbow 6, and even MY comp can run that pretty smoothly. (My comp makes that comp from Dell look like god). You could also try TigerDirect.com if newegg doesn't work out, but newegg is a good place to start. And if I've learned anything from my friends who have higher end games (Doom 3, Age of Empires III, Call of Duty 2 [Call of Duty 3 coming out soon! Can't wait to hog a friend's computer 8-) ] ) and they say that if you ever invest in anything for a computer, you should spend it on the video card. Even though you might not get the nVidia 7800 or the ATI All-in-Wonder(those insane pieces of hardware would be all of your money and then some  ) , but you might still be able to get one that's ALMOST decent. Or you could do what could save you the most money of all: Wait a year. Everything will drop by at LEAST 15% and you might be able to get Vista, which of course, is coming out in January. And if you're having trouble getting your hands on some software like an Anti-Virus program, an Antispyware, word processing, or basic stuff like that, PM me and I'll tell you all about the world of FREEWARE. That's right. Get 100% legitament pieces of software from reputable companies absolutely free by getting their freeware version or personal home edition. Oh ya, here's something I found a bit funny: 17 inch E773 (16 inch viewable) Conventional CRT [included in Price] No Monitor [subtract $20] LOL CRT MONITORS ARE WORTH LIKE NOTHING Something to fill my sig with until I find a replacement. Also check out my blug

Nadril
I prefere CRT monitors for gaming.... not as nice if your going toa lot of BYOC LAN Tournies, but I still prefere CRT. I'm fine with my 19" flat screen for gaming. Haven't noticed it ghost ever :). And it realy doesn't have any (noticable) dead pixels on it :). Of course I don't use CRT's realy, but I do have an old, crappy CRT next to my flatscreen as a dual monitor. It's realy old though so it realy doesn't count for anything. zonda
I don't have a problem with ghosting, a friend of mine does sadly, but not me. My problem is I like to lay down alot when I am browsing forums or just screwing around. With a plasma or flatscreen monitor, I can't really do that because if your not eye level with it the screen gets really really dark, or sometimes on an angle it will be grey. ... Lord_T
I know exactly what you mean. I just got a laptop and I keep noticing that if its not exactly at the right angle, I have to keep adjusting it. Then I think, "dang I wish I was using a CRT" then I remember, "oh yeah, I'm on a laptop..." But I still like to do most things on CRT monitors and I really prefer to watch stuff others are doing if they're using CRT monitors, since I can't even see it if they use a flatscreen. Oh, and goblinmatt12, that eMachines with the AMD Sempron looks nice and its easily within your budget. I would go with it since it should be able to to do CounterStrike no sweat and should do the latest games at decent to moderately high settings. I'm noticing that it starts with 256 MB of Memory so an even cheaper way to sqeeze some more performace out of it would be to go somewhere during a good sale and get a couple of 512MB or 1GB memory sticks and upgrade it to its maximum portential on memory since that would be a fairly cheap and painless upgrade, and would give your computer more to work with. For now though, 256MB of memory should do just fine for you, and I always say that AMD is the way to go! 8-) "The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits." --Albert Einstein
