nomader
Most people go through this: you organize your bank so that everything is nice and convienient to find and go about your business. Your bank slowly becomes disorganized as you pull out various items and throw them back in. You then have to do it all over again in order to keep things tidy and easy to find. Some players are willing to spend thousands if not millions of gold to buy duplicates as placeholders. Why should we have to spend anything though? I think that a new button needs to be added between the swap/insert and note/item buttons called "fix position" (or some similar name). This to the effect being a button that when you click it saves your item positions so that if you remove all of an item and then later put it back, it acts as if you inserted that item into its former slot manually, without the hassle of manually doing so. This would help keep everyones bank tidy (which can be quite a hassle if your a member) and would not be difficult to implement. so, thoughts? kruimel0
very nice idea, i never have a nice organiced bank, but its a very nice idea :D  Give a man a fish, and he'll choke on the bones. Result: You get the rest of the fish. Teach a man to fish, and he'll catch a lot of fish, then choke on one of the bones. Result: You get all the fish he caught. Teaching people is better. Endasil
Although the idea is sound and useful, the only thing that worries me is the amount of memory it would take in the database. This would effectively double the amount of memory required by the bank. Other than that, it's a great idea. An alternative (or addition) would be a JAGeX layout...where basically THEY choose a layout (that stacks similar items together, so rares all together, ores all together, then bars right after that, than a hammer, etc. And then you could click to accept their layout. This would require effectively no extra memory and would at least tidy up peoples' banks. It wouldn't give them the customization that they probably would want, however. shade_bandyt
thagern i was just about to recommend your suggestion in the meanwhile, in my sig is a link to a guide i made, but it uses the placeholder method. endasil, you dont know what youre talking about. every item in your bank, whether its duplicated or not, uses up memory for storage. if you have a placeholder item or a fixed position marker in your bank, its the same memory spot is designated for the item or the spot that represents the item. so it would actually utilize no more memory than what is already designated for bank storage anyway, i prefer the placeholder method. it raises the value of your bank, and the placeholder items can be used as backup gear if you happen to lose what you took out. if all you have is a placeholder, sure your bank layout will be preserved, but you still wont have the item. worse, for f2p players, a full bank of spot markers means you have to constantly remove and reset them to clear bank space, defeating the purpose i say its a good idea, but it doesnt beat having multiple items at all Are you a member with a full bank and cancelling your subscription? Are you an F2P player that wants more bank space? Check out my guide on Going to F2P with a full bank
nomader
couple things. First shade is right, the placeholder would take up almost no memory as jagex has to utilize them anyways so that the game remembers where everything was when you logged off. As for empty placeholders, effectively if you were to remove all of an item it wouldnt leave an empty slot, the slot would physically disappear so that it wouldnt take up bank space, the only time it would take up bank space is when you actually went and deposited those items back into the bank. All that would be there would be code telling the game that the next time you put a particular item in your bank it should be placed in a certain area.
