Get your mage up so people dont think you just got it for tele 8-)

If you're getting 40 range, use d-hide vambraces (useful even with rune armour) and switch the iron legs to d-hide chaps.

 

 

 

Calculation for Iron:

 

Defense +47 +51 +42 -12 +45 (no D-hide, normal gloves)

 

Defense +61 +58 +58 +2 +57 (+ green vambs/chaps)

 

 

 

And for steel:

 

Defense +72 +76 +66 -12 +70 (no D-hide, normal gloves)

 

Defense +80 +77 +77 +2 +76 (+ green vambs/chaps)

 

* +4 to all for 5 defence instead of 1

Is steel defence worth an extra combat level - tough choice, I've usually considered it to be "either/or" - take extra HP (and combat level) by being melee/ranged, and use Iron + green, or take a defence based combat level & use steel.

 

 

 

Goiing pure against pure, where attack and hit counts, a little more defence might not save a single hit before the fight is over.

 

 

 

A steelclad is a bit more robust in general combat, and self smithed steel is the ultimate "value" armour.

 

 

 

To stick to the purest pure though, stay with Iron + green - and yes, raise magic, as it also improves resistance to magic, though compromising to chain/med/antidragon ot leather + antidragon aids magic defence.

if youre interested in a little extra def, get your 40 ranged ane wear green legs with your iron. green chaps are nearly 3 times better in defence than iron legs. yet its still not going to help any bceause your def is low anyway. 5 def is about 1.5 combat levels, not a big disadvantage, but steel is not really a big help anyway. its better to just stay at 1 def
