Arcticrunite
With all these guitar topics floating around, im ashamed to admit i am starting another one :( I have a birthday coming up in a month and christmas ontop of that. Seeing all these guitar topics has struck a chord (yeah bad pun, but admit it you laughed) deep down inside. I have 0 musical background and i couldnt tell a guitar from a drum set, but i am an adaptable learner and a quick one at that as well. So enough of my blabbing, ill say the question. What's the best guitar to learn on, something cheap reliable and great to learn on. I only have one requirement though. ACOUSTIC ONLY. I do not want an electric guitar, id figure those are more advanced and like i said, i am very VERY new to this. Also do you have any pointers and such you can give me along with the type of acoustic guitar to get? Id really appreciate if you could help me out for a change. Thanks alot ~Arc/Rba
assassin_696
I don't know what your budget is, and I don't know a lot about different acoustics, but if you really are just starting out like you said you are I would probably recommend one of those cheap acoustic starter packs that come with a tuner, picks, songbooks etc. I know the guitar won't be great, but it's a start and you can still have a lot of fun with them. I still pick up my replica fender strat now and again for a blast. Search google for "acoustic guitar starter packs" and you'll get more results than you shake a hat at. But here is an example of a fairly reputable starter guitar manufacturer. I'm sure there'll be others with a better knowledge of acoustic guitars though. assassin_696
Oh well in that case $500 or less should easily get you a good acoustic guitar for a beginner. I'll let the experts come in and advise you :P "Da mihi castitatem et continentam, sed noli modo"

Ragen
I did some research for you (well more than I did buying my first guitar), about what kind of guitar you should think about getting. Buying a guitar Top Five Acoustics Choosing between Acoustic and Electric An electric guitar may be more confusing at first, but it is easier to play on. Top Five electrics From the top five electrics, i highly recommend the Yamaha Pacifica. I hope this helps. Thanks Venomai for this super sig and Kwimbob for the awesome avatar! insane
I've been playing acoustic guitar for five years, and I've played quite a few different kinds. First thing: do not buy a left-handed guitar. I am left-handed irl myself, but I did absolutely fine with a right handed guitar. All sheet music and tabulature is written for right handed guitars and I don't think you'll want to stand on your head to read whatever music you'll be wanting to play. The guitar I personally own is the Fender G45SCE. Yes, boring name I know. It was my first guitar, and it's only disappointed me once (tried to play Casey's Song by City and Colour and it sounded like crap for the first time in four years). It'll run you up over $500 maybe though. At a store around where I live it's listed at $800 (Canadian), so around $700-$750 American you're looking at. But it's totally worth that. I personally wouldn't sell it for $1200, $400 more than I paid for it. So it's a great value. It's got a really thin neck and a really bright sound. I got it with a cutaway, though you could get it cheaper than I listed if you go without a cutaway. The brand I would suggest most to you would be a Cort. They suit well for beginners, they sound incredible for the price, and are definitely within your price range. Basically I just wanted to talk about my guitar, I'm not exactly suggesting it. I suggest a Cort. No specific brand, just go and try them out. I am personally not a fan of Takemine; their guitars usually feel bulky and require alot of "umph" to generate a decent sound. Seagulls are nice; though usually more pricy - their necks are usually wider too, but that is good for a beginner, if your hand is big enough. xevanx
i hate coustics without cutaways..its lame..its like saying, dude heres a guitar..but uhh you can use the entire lower section..unless you snap off your fingers..and contort them to play an amazing solo. but that seems like a nice acse..(wow. im lame) get it? acoustic axe? haha. anyways. how the heck did you mess up on city and colour? lol
insane
how the heck did you mess up on city and colour? lol I didn't mess up, I said my guitar sounded like crap for the song :P. But if it's anything to you Casey's Song is probably the hardest song to play on the album. As for acoustics without cutaways - an acoustic without a cutaway makes perfect sense - it's probably around 99.9% of all acoustic songs will never require you to go above the 16th fret :P
xevanx
if he wants to ply blues he might want to. and okay, i guess i can say casey's song would be different
