Rcty
Hi!!! This just popped into my head when I have lately been answering questions on the "Help and Advice" forum. When people ask questions, such as "How do you play the Gnome Delivery Service minigame?" and you answer, it would be very helpful to have a guide linked in your text. But, the only problem is that if you do that, then you have to pull up another window and find the link to the guide, which can sometimes get frustrating. I have a solution. Auto-Links Why not have a special code that is "[link][/link]?" When you put the [link][/link] around a specified text, it will automatically link to the Tip.It guide/page about it! Examples: 1. Type in "Or, you cold refer to the [link]Gnome Delivery Service guide[/link], which was written by the very great person Rcty." 2. It would automatically change into: "Or, you could refer to the Gnome Delivery Service guide, which was written by the very great person Rcty." Of course, you would maybe have to make a mod that recognizes the words within the [link][/link] codes and link it to the guide, or you could just program it and release a list of the phrases that will be automatically converted. I know that this might also take up a lot of meomory and stuff. Once, again this idea just popped into my head, and I thought I'd share with it. No flaming allowed, unless you want to get reported. Tell me what you think!!! :) ~Rcty Rcty
The_Sith
It's a very unique and good idea but I think its usage will be very limited. To the more advanced poster, it could prove quite useful when replying to H/A threads. But to the normal user who hasn't mastered BBCode or memorized the names of certain guides, it would be a bit unnecessary. By the time they look up the guide and find the title, they may as well paste the link into the post itself rather than use complicated BBCode. I like the idea, don't get me wrong, but I only see it being useful for a handful of people - and while I don't want to discourage those who frequently respond to question threads, I don't want to have a modification installed that takes up DB queries and gets little real use. You're right...I said it would take up a lot of memory, but I never realized the other thing you said: That by the time you look up the title of the guide you might as well just copy and paste the link. BUT some people may just look at the page with all the guides on it for the name. :-k Ugh...This has too many possible solutions. :P ~Rcty P.S. - I'm not trying to start an argument with you, as you probably know. :P I'm just stating what I think. :D Rcty
The_Sith
True but again, it's just one extra step (right click > Copy link) that the user would do rather than the server. And frankly, I'd rather the user take an extra step to do it than forcing the server to. I'm not arguing with you either - I think the concept is swell. But I don't think it would work too well here (even with unlimited server power) :?:
D. V. Devnull
I have to agree with The_Sith... DB Queries are apparently still a problem with the Tip.It forums. It launched an arguement over post counts. :ohnoes: Still though, Rcty, it was a nice thought. :) ~Mr. Devnull and normally with a cool mind.(Warning: This user can be VERY confusing to some people... And talks in 3rd person for the timebeing due to how insane they are... Sometimes even to themself.)

Thought it might fly, but pretty much knew it wouldn't. Still, though, thanks for the comment!!! :D ~Rcty Rcty
