Hi, ill be quick.

 

I have 2 Harddrives, my primary harddrive is full and my second harddrive, which i added on, is quite empty. When i use programs, internet etc. The temporary files keep filling up my primary harddrive and i keep having to delete stuff.

 

 

 

Could someone explain what RAID version i need, and how to get it/if i have it.

Eh, you don't need RAID... You need to move your own personal files to your secondary hardrive. If you're already doing that, you need to get yourself a bigger primary hardrive or start uninstalling old programs you don't use.

Ive read wiki's guide dozens of times. I cant.dont want to move ALL my files to the other hardrive since most of them are quite big 2Gigs+ and are programs, so moving them would effect me as i could not run the program. Does anyone know how to install RAID/find out if you have RAID?

If your read wiki's guide "Dozens" of times, then you'd know. Consult your motherboard's manual to see if you have hardware RAID, if you don't use Google to find how to get up a software RAID.

You don't need RAID. RAID would not help you. You would run into problems if you were trying to use striping and the two discs weren't the same as each other.

 

 

 

There's a way of changing the user folder to another drive, but I can't remember how. If you can find the environment variables settings in windows then it should be there.

Right click any "My Documents" icon, select properties. On the "Target" tab you will have a path where your documents are currently stored. Click "Move", select the folder to move everything to, click OK and you're done. Everything will be moved and any new items will be stored there instead.

 

 

 

This is assuming you're using XP. It may be different in earlier versions.

 

 

 

As others have said, you don't need RAID, just another drive to store things on. RAID is only needed to increase performance or to help reduce data loss if a drive dies in a critical enviroment.

 

 

 

Edit: Reading back again, this only moves your personal documents stored in My Documents. All the program data will still be stored in the local settings and application data settings. I don't think you can change that without mucking with the registry. You're better off just moving personal files and programs off to the bigger drive anyway so windows can freely use what it needs.

Another point is that if your two discs WERE exactly the same and you were going to set up RAID 0 you'd have to move all your data anyway - you would have to populate the discs from scratch otherwise they wouldn't be striped.

Setting up RAID is usually only an option if you are building a new ocmputer, or do not care if all your data is lost :shame:
