P-Mod Advantage?

I was trying to buy some stuff on world 2 the other day and I was competing with a pmod. We both were buying for the same price but his text appearing in the screen was a definite advantage. I don't even mean that he necessarily got more sales but that he had to type a lot less than I did.

The whole purpose of pmods having a silver crown or having their chat bypass the filters makes no sense to me. Does the crown showing have any practical purpose other than drawing attention and annoyances your way. By that I mean whether or not someone sees you're a mod you can report them either way. Wouldn't it make more sense to have them not be distinguished thereby making them a more effective behind the scenes tool for reporting players. If there weren't such an obvious distinction less people would strive for the "prestige" and in turn less people who didn't need to be pmods would become them.

I completely agree. I made a huge thread about that whole issue. Pm me if you want me to look for the thread I made on it awhile back later.

yeah, that is a good point, but do not forgot that mods who don't have crowns can also cause trouble. Other people might question his moderatorship when he says that he is a mod, which will make things go bad.

So what I'm suggesting is that there should be a toggle option for the silver crown, to turn it on/off. That way, we'd be like civil polices and can strike when we can :D

PS. I also have something to add about the crown. A pmod acts like a role model for other players, so it is required that they behave well in games. The crown is basically for other people, so that they recognise mods. It doesn't matter that much if scammers run away when they see mods, since mods aren't forced to hunt for scammers, and if they don't say anything (mods), the scammer won't know that you're a mod.

i dont generally advertise this, but i am a p-mod, and buying and selling on full worlds does get difficult. everyone has a question and trades, whether they are buying or selling what u are offering.. i wouldnt call it an advantage by any means.

oooo!!! a p- mod!!! lol, i actually have a question for u: how do u mute some1? is it in the options? i doubt that because: "lets see... trade fakeplayer123... oops! i accidently muted him!". do u have to press control and shift and right clik player and mute at the same time?

on topic: i think they have advantages because they get a lot more attention, but the disadvantage is the same thing as the advantage. u get to much attention! but i still wanta be P-mod! ::'

Yeah i was also wondering how you could mute poeple. seems thats the most sound though. just right click and it shows? its like a dark secret to me.

I can see this to a certain point but there isn't a valid case that I can think of where it would be necessary for someone to know you're a pmod or not. You can still carry out your mod business whether someone believes you are one or not.

I could go for this as a "choice B."

This is a bad presumption in my opinion. Just by the way pmods are selected should exclude them from automatically being a role model. While most fit that mold it can't be extended to them all. People earn respect from others by the way they behave and how they present themselves. Having people show respect solely because someone has a silver crown by their name isn't a good way for that respect to be awarded.

As a final note I'm not against pmods. I know several, all of whom are quite nice (though I don't tend to stay friends with jerks for long anyway.) I just think the system could be worked out a little better than what is currently in place.

I was metcheting on world 2 and through all the crap, i saw one P Crown though my chat was on Freinds. So I am pretty sure that alot of the Poeple who Sell or buy on World 2 do that wouldent he Have the best and easyiest time selling anything no matter what? even on a server with 600 or less poeple would still see his/her crown and be like "whoa, importent, better look at what he said Just in case its about me".

Could any Real P-mods shed light on this or is it actully harder becuase poeple would ask random questions about what the Crown means? (in a less crowded world of course)

I could see how this can be a slight advantage. But we need this to make players aware a mod is active and in game.

Sorry, but we cannot tell you how we mute players. It is confidential information.

Player Mods don't get much advantage, instead they are mainly the source of abuse. Some players often insult mods, and bug them with all kinds of questions.

The crown is there for players to identify us. It does have its disadvantage, as it attracts too much attention. Nevertheless the advantage is that it is easy to see and won't confuse normal players.

Regarding the advantage in trading, yes in some sense it does make us easier to trade as our messages become more conspicuous due to the crown. But most of the players have asked me questions instead of trading with me, so it doesn't really help. I would be too busy answering questions rather than typing things like "Trading for uncuts".

One other reason why the crown cannot be hidden is that it would become all too easy for a scammer to say "I'm a mod, give me your pass so I can make you one" without it being necessary to show a crown as proof. Basically, anyone could claim to be a player mod and people would have no reason to believe they were lying, seeing as mods wouldn't have a crown.

With that said, I still think it would be easier, more helpful and more fair for mods to not have the crown shown in the chat, but I understand why it's there and have to agree with the reasoning.

I have to agree with Ltfairy there.

beign a player mod as i found has alot of disadvantages, I dont actually merchant anything in runescape myself as i found the Crown causes more problems when i speak. So i get someone else to buy and sell for me.

But theres only a very small precentage of pmods i know have the same problems as me and do things this way. I haven't the patince with users as i use to have, when they ask me silly questions like how youbecome a pmod when im trying to buy or sell something. ;) but then i'm a old dog and get tired easly these days.
