How to tell when I've been muted?

Featured Replies

I've been wondering, have I been muted and how do I know? I've checked my account status, and I'm clean on that front (not that I've said anything worth getting muted for), but some recent encounters have made me wonder.

Yesterday, I was in Falador and someone was asking if they were in Varrock. I told him, no, it's Falador and Varrock is to the east. A few seconds later, he asked the exact same question! Something like three other people kept telling him what I did, but he apparently wasn't listening.

Today, however, is what made me wonder about my mute status. I was in Edgeville and this guy was asking where he had to go to make fire runes. Remembering back to my newb runecrafting days, when I couldn't find the altars to save my life, I told him to go to Al Kharid, in the south east. Like yesterday, he asked the exact same question a few seconds later, despite having the answer I just gave him. I told him again, since there were some spammers nearby, but he seemed to not hear me, making me wonder if I'd been muted and was unaware.

So, how do I know? Or, I suppose I should ask, is this a common thing that happens? Do newbs often ask questions then ignore the answers they're given?

just go up to someone and ask if they can see what you're saying. if they say yes, then you're not muted

Expecting a good life because you're a good person is like expecting a bull not to charge because you're a vegetarian.

Actually, a similar situation seems to happen to me a lot when I'm training on flesh crawlers in the stronghold of security.

About once or twice a week (I've been training here since August) the following situation occurs: some noob comes along and asks "omg how do i get out of here?" Usually, they approach from the north (I train in the southwest corner of the second level), so I give them instructions on how to reach the bone chain that's just to the north. Every single time, despite specific instructions to head north, the idiot goes southwest ( #-o ) through the flesh crawlers to the doors between the level 53 zombies and the level 35 fleshies. The noob then proceeds to ask several times, "how do i get out of here?" and "can i have some food plz?"

Since the flesh crawlers have a max hit of 1, I tell the person to just go northeast to the other doors and head out, restating the location of the bone chain. Evidently though, I'm muted too and the person just asks the same two questions over and over (with varying degrees of vulgarity, of course  )

At this point, the fleshies usually stop being aggressive, so I just walk out, climb the bone chain, switch worlds, and think no more of the person :)

I'm pretty sure it's not the same person trying to annoy me, since it's been going on for a while and I tend to log on to a different world every day.

Thanks noname, that helps.

Something I just thought of, could these people be using some form of autotyper to get around the auto-log? Would it work that way?
