Is this how it is supposed to be?

Featured Replies

for the past few weeks i have watched the market of runescape.

I have been very saddened by the fact that most high valued items (excluding rares) have been going down in price at a great rate. Example:

I bought full guthans armor set about 2 weeks ago in hopes of raising slayer skill. It's price was about 9,1 million. Now 2 weeks later i can see that the armor set price is about 8,1 million. This conclusion is that i have lost big money ( 1000k gp) in 2 weeks only by holding a very useful armor set.

On the other hand i have made most of my money with 1 big lucky stricke: buying a red h'ween mask for 18 million gp in may and selling for 36 million gp in july.

I was very inactive those days and of course i cherised my almost free 16 million it made me think " Is this really the game spirit that i make lots of money only by holding 1 item in my bank for 2 months while i don't really play the game itself?"

To most of runescape's players 1000k is a lot of money. Does anyone want to lose that amount only by playing the game without actually spending any money or losing items due dying or getting scammed?

What can we do about inflation and the amount of supply and demand?

Nothing!!!

Instead i want to ask: is this how this is supposed to be and for how long this will continue?

Kariga - mourner of millions lost to inflation :(

simply supply and demand...how many people run around barrows or get drag drops every day? as more and more barrows items and dragon items are found by players, the price of them will go down..meanwhile rare items (p hats masks santas etc) will only go up due to a decresing number because of people holding them and quitting etc...so there really is nothing that can be done about this...its a bummer i know

No need to repeat this, so I'll just add in that inflation isn't only about supply and demand, but also the total amount of GP in the game, which is rising by th second, which is what causes rares to inflate so much.

Drops: Barrows: 60+ DK: 4... Dragon: 60+ Whips: 2... GWD: 0...ouch!

Main Goal: 2000 total with no 99's

Which is exactly why I sold all my barrows armour, and bought rangers set.

Exactly why I'm gonna get Guthans in like a week \'

I'm thinking just wait a couple more months and buy full guthans for like 2 mil the way things are going right now.

I try to never hold onto high value items for long due to value decreases. If I don't plan on using guthans for a few weeks, i just sell it and when i do need it, buy it back. If i plan on ranging I'll buy a ranger set and sell as soon as I'm done (unless I only plan on ranging for a short while).

you're never going to make it in the real world if you can't deal with depreciation...

Depreciation is a big part of runescape...You should know that if you buy a set of pueso-rare armour that it's price will fall...guthans sat at 13m for a while...then it sat at 10m for a while...and now it has dropped to around 8m...just realize that items will fall in price if they are not a rare.

I can deal with it, but with a rate of 1m per week it just doesn't cut with my slayer training >.

It's not really 1 mil a week, it just happened that you got it right before a major drop. I bought guthans for around 11 mil at about the time construction came out, so that's a 3 million drop in about 4-5 months.

Like others have said, due to supply and demand the only things that can truly raise in price are the rares and other no longer obtainable items. Anything that player can still collect in game currently (and they will each and every day) can only make the price lower. That's exactly how it is supposed to work, and will continue on in the same fashion. Just take this as a lesson and whenever you do buy something, keep that thought in your head that you can spend more to have it now, or wait and hopefully spend less but have to wait to actually own it.

Yes, you could have "saved" 1 mill if you had waited, but you don't really know when and by how much these drops will happen. And even then, there will be another price drop at some point and you will have "lost" money then as well.

If Jagex ever made a perfect update, there would be players complaining about nothing to complain about.

Yes..there is not really any problem. The point is that it just keeps amazing me how much money is gained/ lost by holding certain items in your possession.

Oh well lets hope my dry streak at level 3 clues ends...

It doesnt really matter to me. I bought the same guthans set i have now for about 26m around the time htye came out. I bought my dragon chain for about 25-30m as well. I dont regret holding onto them. There will always be more money to be made and I can make that amount of money back. If i like the item and its useful/cool then I'll buy it for whatever price i need too because I can make the money back.
