blade995
Well I have this old game I found that I would like to play again. For the operating system it suggests is Windows 95/95/ME. If I remember correctly when I use to play this a couple years ago on Windows 98 it worked perfectly. When I try to load the game I get an error that says "this program has encountered a problem and error and needs to close." Is there anything I can do to make this game work under windows XP? I have downloaded a patch on the website but it's from the year 2000 so it didn't make any difference.
Anesthesia
What old game is it? There are a couple of things that could work. One is running it in DOSBox. The other is right clicking it, going to properties and turning on compatibility mode for either 95 or 98. Sometimes there seems to be no way to make them work. Some people are changed by being a moderator. I wouldn't be.
zonda
Compatibility mode should work, however I have a few old DOS games that don't work any more either, sadly. Curses upon XP. ...
blade995
Thank you, compatibility mode worked :) , sort of. It can now start up and run decently but will crash to the desktop after about 10mins of play :? .

Usually you can search for help on a specific game with Google and it'll give you some fairly accurate ways of getting it to work. I had to do that with Red Alert 1. Notoriously Trollish.
